I have not put the primary breather in yet for my 2015 961SE. It appears it might be leaking from the cover but the gasket LOOKS good. Is there anywhere else down there it could be leaking from? I bought a new primary gasket just in case.

There is the wire grommet seal , and the shift shaft seal also. Is your air box drain leaking out ? Also , are you getting oil on top of the crank case beneath the starter ? If you are driving the bike you need to install that primary/trans vent now. Even if you install the cap with the 90 deg vent elbow and nothing else. You just need to stick the vent hose in an route it under the starter and then back down under the engine.

Thanks Tony. I was going to ask that for a temp fix for now. It's winter + I don't want to tear into the airbox right now . U r a good man .

It's not the grommet seal + it's not the air box drain . It's getting wet near the kickstand. Also in that hollow area toward the front of the primary cover. Could the shift shaft seal leak there?
It's dripping off the primary cover but the gasket LOOKS good .

Does this leak when just parked ? No riding to force the oil out ? What is the hollow toward the front ?

Only when running. Below from the front bulge(Stator)is where it appears to be. Get the side stand wet. But it appears to be dripping the area of the primary cover that is above the stand when stopped. But the gasket LOOKS good at that spot. Running back to the lowest part of the cover.

Factory routes it under the engine too. No need to go to the airbox.

Thanks. I thought it had to do with smog regs where it was recycled through the air box. I'd rather do it that way anyway .

If you go into your airbox then there is zero chance of contamination into your transmission. If you don’t, then keep it in mind how to route or where you did whenever you wash the bike or ride the bike in bad weather and dust. Its really easy to route into the airbox. Im not sure how norton does it but do what’s right. I have a manual on it. Give it a read. Its a super easy job. If you don’t do it right away properly then by the time good weather comes you wont do it at all. It will be forgotten.

In Euro 4 Service Manual it shows the Norton Factory vent line route. Under starter , all the way to back of trans/primary and then down to where the other vent lines gather on the lower frame behind the side stand.

Hello Kid , How far do you have to drive it before you get the oil to seep/leak out ? Could it be you are experiencing a pressure build up leak ?

It appears that way, pressure buildup. Maybe 10 or 15 miles. If I clean it & let it sit there is no oil the next day.
Waiting for a break in the weather to get out to the garage.

Mine leaked from under the starter. It was the starter itself, not the gasket. This was due to an internal O ring problem. The oil found it's way to the flat open area on the cases and the areas of which you speak. Under the cases over the kickstand. Took two years for anyone to figure out it was the starter.

Hello Kid , Is there oil on top of the crankcase , just below the starter ?

Didn't see any. But it felt a little dirty. Will the oil leak from up top of the crankcase down? Looks like there is no way to get there.

That is what I experienced . (It does not seem to migrate lower) . Britfan said his did , I thought I would ask if your starter was leaking. You should be able to find an oil trail if you clean the cases good ,take a ride and look for the source. Use a bright light and look at many different angles , it may be hard to see it.

For the most part no, but a hard ride and wind blew it around the primary cover a few times.
