I was going to send my lifters to JS for regrinding, but at a closer inspection I´m starting to doubt that they are good enough......I can feel the grooves with the fingernail, not much, very slightly uneven surface. Opinions?

Reground cam or new one? I've been told that it makes a difference. Not an expert on this but anytime that I have a questionable part I buy new. The cost of a new replacement is much less than a failure especially at speed or when many miles from home. I have had a reground lifter lose its hardness in a VW engine that I built for my sons bus so I'm kinda choosy on the lifter thing.

That looks like it has suffered from foreign particles grinding away twix tappet and bore!

Personally I’d say it was unserviceable. But I’d also expect the bore it ran in to look similar. Have you checked the tappet bore in the barrel?

Hopefully yours will be like mine... badly scored.

Why hopefully? Because then you have the perfect excuse to buy JS BSA followers (the fixed bronze tappet block doesn’t care if its in a scored bore)!

I´ll look in to the bores tomorrow, you´re probably right that they´re too far gone. I´d love to get the JS stuff, I was going to send these to him and buy a fitting camshaft, that´s enough money in my world. But now....We´ll see what happens.

is there a fix for a worn/scratched lifter bore? not familiar with this js bsa block as an option, looked like a package deal that includes shorter pushrods & only works with a particular (type?) cam?

+ .020” lifters are available as a repair option (well, at least RGM are showing them as available).

My own barrel was way beyond what + .020” would clean up though.

Yes, the BSA lifters require special pushrods and camshaft so are very much a ‘package deal’.

But / therefore... If you’re rebuilding your engine and are facing a worn cam and followers and follower bore, then the package deal is something of a ‘no brainer’ or at least it was to me.

I have some scored lifters, but not like yours. Your lifters appear to have been 'rocking' in the bore, scuffing top and bottom and not middle. I suggest you inspect the lifter bores to see what they are like.

Yeah, I don´t quite understand how they can be worn that way? On the top and bottom, seems the wrong parts of them that´s been worn. I mean if they rock around in the bores, shouldn´t the ware be on the sharp ends that face front and back, if you see what I mean? But I have seen used lifters on sale on Ebay looking like mine, so it´s not just me....But I´m probably going to go the "Fast Eddie-trail".....It won´t be any cheaper if I buy new lifters +020", and find someone who can machine the bores in the cylinder compared to the "total solution" provided by Jim Schmidt in the US. I was still going to buy the radioused lifters and cam from him anyway so....
