Whats the value of a 74-75 norton commando barn find

I came across a norton commando thats been sitting for several years what would be a good price for it? The engine kicks over and feels like it has good compression and its 99% complete. I cant figure out how to post a picture of it
 
Does it have a title? That helps. What is the cosmetic condition? How many original miles?

A few years ago it was more common to see barn finds. It seems that the supply is dwindling. Without looking at any photos, I am going to say it might fetch a couple grand these days even if its a rusted pile. How motivated is the seller? Do they have any energy or interest in seeing it gone? Or is it just another piece of junk to them?

With all that said, if you want this bike, its nice not to pay too much for it, but in the big scheme of a total rebuild a few hundred bucks shouldn't matter now. Consider that when you make an offer.
 
I actually have the bike. My inlaws bought a house and we found it on the property under a carport. I have no paperwork on the bike and i dont think it has the vin tag on the neck. As far as condition the fuel tank is probably not useable the handlebars have surface rust the exhaust pipes have surface rust and so on. The wheels frame fenders are all nice the only thing thats really missing is the seat and it just rotted away. The engine numbers are 324***or364*** cant remember off the top of my head

Possibly! Im trying to figure out what its worth or even what year it is. I dont know much about them im a harley guy im working on a 59flh right now and i know i wouldn't be able to do anything with the norton for a few years at least

It appears to be a '73 or '74 Interstate. $1800-$2200 US is my guess.

Yes i listed it locally on Craigslist to see what i would get offered and i was flooded with people wanting it but no one wanted to give much for it but i thought if that many people want it it must be rare or worth something. Ive literally had 30+ people interested and i listed it a couple days ago
 
This forum is probably the wrong place to answer your question about what it is worth. You will get responses by zealots who will tell you that it is priceless. And responses that will lowball it, for a variety of reason including they would like to buy it from you. And responses that say you should part it to get the best $, followed by finger wagging responses if you consider parting it. And advice on how you should restore it and ride it cause it will improve your life. You might even get a few real answers to your question, but they will be lost in all the other stuff. Good luck.

Oh yeah. People will want it, whether any of them want to pay for it is the problem.

There were lots of Commandos shipped to the US, so it isn't exactly rare but its harder to find bikes that haven't been rebuilt by someone else. Interstate tanks fetch a premium. No title knocks the price back some. It's worth a couple grand. You might get more, but not a lot. You probably would improve the return by parting it out, but if you are not familiar with the bikes I'd think this route would lead to a lot of frustration.

Figuring out whether the tank is shot would help. A good steel interstate tank is probably worth close to a grand just by itself.
 
It's nearly complete, but everything will need work or replacing so its difficult to put a value on it, the total cost will not be too different from what it will be worth when finished or be even more.
 
If it was mine, I wouldn't sell it for less than $2,000

If I were buying a Commando to fix up, I think $2K would be a fair price for that, but I'd rather pay $1,500!

Im probably going to sell it if i can get a decent offer but if not i will get to it eventually
