Has anyone fitted one of the new Smiths tacometers that are available from Andover ?
I bought one to go on my MKIII but it does not work ! I have followed the fitting instructions , but I am wondering if it has something to do with the Pazon ingnition I have fitted..

I fitted one and it worked straight out of the box. It was a bit complicated trying to figure out the wiring, but I'm very pleased with it and it appears to be accurate too!

I'm running a Tri-Spark ignition system, but see no reason why it shouldn't work with the pazon.

Two years ago I converted to electronic speedo and tach, easy install and I really like how smooooth

Can someone post a wiring schematic that works well on both units ? I have a MK 111 stock wiring loom. Thanks.

Are the new electronic tachos and speedos waterproof?
Had heard there was the odd issue with them in the rain.
Regards Mike

My Smiths electronic speedo got absolutely saturated on a 7 hour run up into NSW from Victoria, although it didn't take that long to leak. No warranty on any electronics, so, replacement is my affair. One would have expected a longer life from it when you look at the price. Sort of like followers, I guess.

I had a tacho of that kind with moisture in after strong rain, then he stopped working , Andover took it under warranty and sent it back free of charge , it put trouble in my Altair EI as well ...................!

Doesn not Altair EI (Pazon) have a direct line for an electronic tach? Were you using that line? Just curious.

That is totally unacceptable. Why would anyone want a tach or speedo that could not be used in the rain. I was considering such, but now it is off the list.
Thanks for the heads up.

I'm getting another one, but I'm making sure that it gets sealed all around with clear silicon. Not something you should have to do in this day and age in my opinion. It should be done by the factory.

Have you guys talked to Smiths about the issue?

Bought through AN. Out of warranty. It would mean going through AN again. Do you really think I would want to do that again after the treatment on the followers? Look who's been proved right on that one.

"We have the best range of new Smiths Instruments in stock in Australia.

These Electronic Smiths Speedometers and Tachometers are housed in a billet waterproof case with the same mounting pattern as the original Smiths SSM and RSM Instruments of the 60's and 70's"

Billet waterproof! I bet if you contact this dealer they will let you know if they really are.

I have never reliled on speedo's or taco's after riding my Norton for over 43 years now I know by the sound of my motor or the way its pulling to know what revs I am doing I know when its over revving or under revving, I know the sound when my hot cam kicks in and I know how far I can push it before my motor goes bang, after all the time I have been on my Norton I just know my bike.
I do the same thing on my moden bikes you get to know the sound they make the way they are pulling I very rerely look at my taco or speedo and when I do look at my speedo is when I see the cops or a speed camera up front, my eyes are always on the look out.
But if you spend so much money on these new speedo's and taco's you would expect them to be water proof as they are exposed to the elements and they should be replaced with no cost to you if they have failed because they are not weather proof remember they are motorcycles and are exposed to some extremes conditions.
