Its much lighter than BRG . the closest match I could find at the time was Ford Forest Green took it back for pigment adjustment ... If you have a BRG fast back younwill find that because its an impregnated colour it will match a painted colour under some lights and not others... so good luck .

Be careful of BRG. I had a reputable vendor paint my tank and tail. While there is a gloss, the color underneath is dull and flat. Not at all like the sample provided. Be sure to get samples of the suggested color before you proceed with painting.

Not sure if you will accept this as BRG, but here are photos of front fender and side panels that I stripped and painted last week. I last painted them using black Imron 40 years ago. I too wanted a nice metallic dark green and went looking on the web. Found a 2014 Corvette color, "Limerock Green". They had me with the name... Had local parts shop mix the paint. I really like it and it is the same as the Corvette. However I looked at the color name on the can. It is "unripened green". I kinda feel cheated... Actually GM rotates colors and they called something less appealing when it was used on p/u's, but still...

Would like someone to direct me to directions to post pics. Feeling a bit stupid.

Some if not all USA market bound 1968 green bikes were repainted candy apple green ( one tank I have has a solid BRG fiberglass gelcoat underneath). You can get any shade by applying more candy over the silver. The originals had pretty thin top coats and were spotty looking . I posted many photos here somewhere. I do not know what factory 1971 green looks like .

rear Fastback on my profile pic is 1971 Factory original colour impregnated fibre glass moulding ... The fairing is an Avon I sprayed . It matches under some lights and not others...You cannot match a sprayed to an impregnated surface colour - unfortunately.

If you want to upload pics to be served by this site you need to become a VIP member with a small fee. You can then use the Upload File button at bottom of the reply text entry box.

Another option is to have the images on another website (I use PBase.com for my online galleries...no ads, full screen views, low fee). Then just copy the image url address and come here, click the image icon (looks like a little landscape pic) to paste in the image url. Should then appear in your post.

What are p/u's as mentioned in your post? Since the internet I've never seen so many acronyms.

P/U = Pickup.
Manufacturers reissue paint codes (here WA136X) under varying names for for different vehicles over time. Here is the GM list for paint code WA136X.
http://paintref.com/cgi-bin/colorco...ime Rock Green&name=corvette2014limerockgreen

I bought the paint from a local parts store that sold a different paint manufacturer than GM uses. The formula is the same but they offer it under a different (less appealing) name. When not in direct sunlight that backlights the paint from the metallic "glitter" it really does approximate dark green BRG. It is also very close to Noble M600 "BRG".

Finding the "correct" green is sort of like the long running effort to get the right metal flake blue. Whatever it is, it probably won't be called British Racing Green. Nobody agrees on exactly what that is.

I use this site: http://www.automotivetouchup.com/

I buy samples of things I think might work and spay them on test pieces to see what they actually look like. The samples run about ten bucks each. So you can spend a fair amount finding your paint, but compared to a paint job you don't like, it made sense to me to do this.

I was about to say the factory never supplied bikes painted in BRG the mouldings were colour impregnated and varied slightly from batch to batch... However just rememebered seeing a fastback long range tank in BRG in Joe Francis Motors and that would have had to be sprayed . Whether there is a receipe for that is moot point , most likely is that they would have asked a local paint shop to knock up a couple of gallons -just how many Fast back LR were there. Whatever ones opinion of the shade its not actually BRG which is much darker and has more blue in it

Don't know if this will help. The photo was taken in artificial light with a digital camera and it doesn't do the sample justice. However, the patch on the left is 1972 Jaguar British Racing Green [HASHTAG]#254[/HASHTAG], Color Code: BLVC254. If you can't trust Jag to get BRG right then who can you turn to?

This photo was taken years ago on a winter day. If I can find that sample sitting around the shop I will take a new photo in natural light and update this.

If such paint samples could be taken to a paint shop or even a HomeDepot, they can properly determine the colour accurately using a calibrated spectrophotometer. This is how home stores can match your wall paint.

This is one I did for my grandson to ride. It's a Mazda Miata color that was their idea of BRG. The color was used as a tribute to classic British cars.
Paint color is PPG 47037, 1991 Mazda Neo Green, Mazda Code HU.

Ken, I’ve been going back through my family tree and it seems we are closely related. Can I have a Commando too ? ( I’m not fussy which colour);)

Is that a standard disc ?

cliffa.

RVich- Many thanks for posting the code. When ethnol destroyed my original fastback tank I did think of having a major respray fairing alloy tank and the still original fastback. Could not find anything that matched and the dats when an obliging paint shop would add a bitof this or that pigmant have long gone.. In the end did nothing .

The jaguar colour you post is not the BRG that jaguar used on the Mk2 in the early 60s which is much darker. Nor do I ever recollect seeing a jag sprayed in the lighter 1972 colour. However I think it a fair bet that Dennis Poore a former racing driver would have taken a shine to such a colorway. When i have time will go into my local Halfords and get them to knock some up . Where there is a code there is a recipe.

Nice try.

And to be fair to my grandson, we built the bike together and he did a lot of the work.

The front disk is a Production Racer item, but with a carrier that is drilled to fit the standard Commando front hub instead of the PR hub. They originally came with an AP Lockheed racing caliper, but on this bike we fitted a replacement Spondon mono-block caliper from the same period. Leftover parts from my PR racing days. This is a better shot of the brake.

We later fitted the same caliper to the rear (I had dual disks on the PR, so had two calipers on the shelf, and felt compelled to match front and rear on this bike. I have a smaller splined carrier PR rear disk that I plan to use to replace the drilled stocker we are currently using.

Thanks Ken, nice bike. I’ve never seen a Spondon caliper before - pretty neat! And it fits straight on the Norvil leg?

Cheers,

cliffa.

Ken that is a very neat looking wheel and installation... So it is a standard wheel modified to take a norvil discarrier and then turned round in the forks... So question how do you stop the lockring from coming undone ?
