what model of norton? which rotor? the brake rotor or the alternator rotor? 1/10 of an inch or a mm, cm? please provide more detail so someone can assist you...
 
I would take it off the ID of the stator not the OD of the rotor, I would not want to risk the magnets coming loose as they can do.
 
Yes it is a little of what I thought, but I prefer you ask for your opinion.
I do not manage to have the correct play (clearance ?) rotor-stator because my cranksahft has a "false circle" of 0.10 mm.
Anybody has already it on the stator ?

You can bend the aluminum posts that the stator mounts on by a little bit. This may solve your clearance.

I think you are better off reaming out or elongating the holes in the stator very slightly so that you can align the stator and rotor better.

I wouldn’t be comfortable recommending to anyone to remove material from the inside of the stator or outside of the rotor.

If bits fly of these when they are spinning at 4,000rpm, it could do a lot of damage.
 
I enlarged the mounting holes for my stator so I could make minor adjustments, then cut a peice of plastic from a large strawberry container from the bottom. I measured it's thickness which was very close to .010" then wrapped that around the rotor and installed the stator and rechecked with feeler gages, all is ok now. As a side note my primary is slightly warped due to previous ownership installing without spacers, so best to check that as well because it will have a negative effect on the stator to stud alignment.

1/10 mm is (near as dam it) 4 thou.

Can’t see it hurting much to take 4 thou off. In fact I’m pretty sure that turning the rotor down was a recognised proddie racing mod of Stan Shentons.

Although, modifying the stator mounts to allow better alignment is probably a better solution.
 
Thus I am going to enlarge 3 fixing holes on his support (850 MK3), I think that it is the most positive solution without making irreversible damages.

Something else to check Fan Fan, the sleeve nut that retains the rotor can be the cause of run out as I have found in the past.
