New to 961?

Ok, it is the first part I am having trouble with, there is a safety pin? I have just been trying to pull the plug off per Iwilson. I realize the sensor is threaded, I just haven't got that far yet!

It was confusing to me at first, too. Once you spot the clip (or pin as Richard calls it) you can see that it releases like so many electrical connectors do. It just looks funky - to me anyway. o_O

Airbox sensor is a great question. I'm a car parts manager so I'll investigate and respond back. Regarding Bosch engine management replacement. I've done this. Give your ECU a break and change them out one at a time and give it some run time to shake hands and get to know each other. If you install all the sensors at once and throw that at the a ECU it could take a while for all the new players to make friends.

And first series of bikes had Omex as well. Mine is 2012 with Omex ECU. Some time later it was SC and now, it appears Omex again...

Has anyone put on the Norton shorties with decat pipe on a Euro4 / MY2017 bike ?
What map would suit that setup ?

Ive basically shared everything I know weather its from Norton or my own discovery. Example the BIN FILES, how to know what revision the maps are, ect...

Hi Richard,
does the updated BIN file only apply to the SCU ECUs? I have an Omex but I can't find any info re the BIN file......

cheers

Paul

I’m not 100% sure on that. I believe the BIN loaded at the factory for OMEX is good or I would have heard about it.

Damn....!!!! After finally being able to ride since December..... I remember again how much I love this bike. And now with the catless thru pipe and o2 resistance plugs!!!! I lost count how many thumbs up I got today. And I was avoiding busy areas. Pulls hard and sound great!!! If you’re new to 961 and havent ridden yet or ever..... you’re in for a treat!!!

Got my O2 plugs on the way from the UK. You're still happy with that change I take it?

Richard,

Easy, don't advertise about the 961 too much, or everybody is gonna be buying one.
Then they'll be all over the place like Hondas and Hogs.:D

So of all these upgrades what ones would need doing if you ordered a new one now or a year old one?

I've read that the gearbox vent is done now and on one page months ago read that Norton now use the Bosch coils and HT leads.

Is this true?

New ones come with Boch coils and relays. They also come with the transmission vent. And revised engine breathing to resolve oil in the airbox issues. Plus lots of other things Li,e different ECU, updated gearbox (people like Wodgedodge who’ve e ridden old and new gearboxes say the difference is big).

Basically, they appear to have most / all of the fixes. Although that’s not saying they’re Honda’s!

They don’t have hot rod HT leads. So I changed mine from stock to super-duper hot rod leads and... didn’t detect the slightest difference.

Thanks Eddie, just trying to work out if it is worth the extra pennies for a new one. I can do work myself but time is limited so if I don't have to then that is a bonus

IMHO, the later the better. If you buy new you get two years warranty too remember. And you’re supporting British business !

You can also spec it to your taste, the factory are very accommodating with such things.

And there’s something very cool about collecting your new Norton from the Norton factory !

I’m not on commission! Jus’ sayin’...!

Haha agreed,

I went to Redhill to have a look at one this week and I was impressed not only by the bike but the dealer as well. If I go for I will be trading in my 74 850 and CB1100 (18) as I really just need one bike.

My girlfriend was also impressed by the pillion seat which I had concerns over.

I was also impressed by the fact they said it wouldn't been an issue if I wanted red with silver coaching(like the original) instead of the gold. So overall I am keen just waiting to hear back from them on a potential deal and then to try one!
