I finally have 6000 miles on my 961

Going down and broken leg really put a damper on last season. Only about 1100 miles from April to April (during rehab and titanium). sigh Today is 40mph winds, 40 degrees F, pouring rain. Zero mileage today. Checked out the new Kawasaki Z1000 RS during my inspection. Really nice bike. Too high for me. Had to sit too close to the tank because of the stepped seat. Uncomfortable riding position. Pity. Got kind of excited, being only 11 grand.

Manx, 810 now, well done. You must be moving up the rev range to maybe 5500 now? how is it, have you got used to the turning circle and riding position yet. Is the sound good, can't wait to try mine again soon

Just creeping into the 5k rpm, been holding her in 3rd/4th much longer and playing with the gearbox in the curves and she is starting to howl like a banshee :) The shorties pop and crackle on the overrun and if you combine that with sharp breaking I can even get the occasional full-on backfire lol

Turning circle on the road has zero effect except for very low speed, still needs a 9-point turn and a cigarette break to get her into my garage. Riding position is good but being short armed/legged i'm always going to be up against the tank, might need to invest in one of those cod pieces that the cricketers use ;)

I’ve been going over 5k for short burst, it just gets better!

I did 240 ish miles on the Krazy Horse bash and really didn’t find the CR riding position too bad at all.

All in all, I’m getting more chuffed by the mile!

Excellent, on my first 30 mile run, I had a bit of tennis elbow in my left arm but on a longer run, my arm got used to it. Just my crash helmet I have to sort now as i struggled with vision with my nolan which has a peek thingy which is fine on a more upright position. Not sure I can afford Clives Davida just at the moment, I do like the Hedon lids though, nice one in silver

Yep, a good lid and jacket make all the difference. I found that the shape of the rear of the lid and thickness of jacket collar made all the difference to comfort. Not everyones cup-of-tea but I went for a Shoei JO open face and can recommend trying that.

As Mx says, jacket choice is very important. If the cut isn’t right for a CR, and / or if the shoulder armour is too thick / too stiff, then the whole shoulder area rises up. This exposes your lower back, makes the shoulder armour useless as it’s no longer in place, and makes looking over your shoulder properly impossible!

You really need to take your bike to a jacket shop before buying as often, jackets that feel good stood upright in front of the mirror don’t when you reach for the clip ons!

It’s like when you see racers walking around in their leathers, they look odd because they’re designed for being in a race crouch, not for standing and walking upright.

I have the Davida Jet and a newer model. Forgot which. Anyway, great lids but quite quiet. I've been using the Bell open face more because I like to hear the bike. Also, unbeknownst to me when ordering them, not DOT approved, so there is a legal issue there.

I got my Davida reduced at a show about 20 years ago and it's still in excellent condition - you can replace linings so as a long term investment it's pretty good.

Didn't the general advice about changing helmets say to change the cheaper polycarbonate ones every 5 years and the fibreglass every 10. Now I read the general advice is every 5 years. Probably completely unnecessary for small milage riders but life insurance companies would probably cease on that if one were to come a cropper.

Long open pipes and de-cat fitted and ecu re-flashed sounds great.

Interesting - thanks for the heads up;). This sounds like a good excuse to invest in a new helmet - I'll have to submit it for board approval...

Going off-piste here for the benefit of us UK folk a biker friend told me today that his insurance would be invalidated if he had a puncture repaired instead of a new tyre! I wonder what the rules are for tubed tyres? From experience insurance companies are like camel traders but without the high moral principles so it might be worth checking. Sounds like some backhanded deal with the tyre retailers.

Wow. Not nearly as nit picky here in the US.

Great weather we're having. Burned a good tank full. 8783. Gonna do it again today. Running pretty good. Got some air in the clutch fluid so did a bleed. Upshifting in to 4th required more than one attempt randomly a few times. That's got me a little concerned. I'll check the oil level in the tranny.
