This place was in SE Connecticut in the 80's and specialized in vintage Brit bikes and they wrenched and sold Nortons. Plenty of them. A few photos from back in the day. Wish I had the $$ to buy them back then. I am not a VIP member so cannot post photos. I will try to link from Fb.

Thanks for the photos
Was that last one a "Dunstall" Atlas? Very small/thin twin discs on the front - lots of bling!!
I see it is Avon GP shod - unlike the other two (Dunlop & ??)
Thanks again
Rob

Incidentally. In that third photo that very rearward muffler support looks to be asking for trouble - but, then again, maybe those challenges were what the British motorcycling industry was all about.
Hope it's got better
Rob

Never saw that style of exhaust in the third picture. Technically, it is a two into one into two but it is unbalanced at the head.

The "split" megaphone are a Dunstall item advertised by him. To my shame I turned down a pair a few years ago because I didn't know what they were and didn't think they looked "cool."

could that possibly be a crossover and we just don't see the right side pipe?
If that is the case then the other side would be a mirror image and the bike would look like it had 4 cylinders???

Did Triumph ever put that double silencer on the 500 BSA single after BSA croaked?
It looks familiar.

They used a similar one on the triumph t50 which was actually a re badged BSA b50

I think you're right. If you look very closely between the frame tubes you can see what look like another exhaust downpipe sweeping down.

Are those Honda or possible Kawasaki "Pivoted" calipers?

Cheers,

cliffa.

Thank oldbeezer. Well, you learn something every day. I'd never heard of Colin Lyster before . It seems he was a very talented engineer from NZ, who passed away in 2003. You can Google Lyster Calipers and see that they were quite advanced for that time. He made nice looking frames too.

Cheers,

cliffa.

Nope. It's what Dunstall called a Siamese pipe. He made them for Nortons, Triumps, and BSAs. Some had them pipe on the right side, and some on the left.

The reason I think it is a cross over pipe is looking at the second picture between the fender and the fairing there is what appears to a junction between a cross over and a head pipe. Where they join is partially obscured by the fender, the header appears coming down between the 2 yellow brake lines.

All I can see there between the brake lines is the right side frame front down tube. I have a picture of the Dunstall Siamese exhaust from an old catalog, but it's in a .pdf document that doesn't allow printing, and I haven't spent the time to find a way to post it. But it looks just like this one. But, I could be wrong. I happens now and then.

Yes, that is exactly what I was referring to in my post. They are just "twinned" megaphone type silencers sold by Dunstall but not very common - probably because not everyone thought they were very attractive.

Finally managed to copy pictures from old (1966 and 1969) Dunstall catalogs for the twin silencer and Siamese pipes.

I spent a considerable part of my misspent youth hanging around a small shop that dealt in Dunstall and Read-titan items. Those were referred to as "twice pipes".

Me too. Leytonstone High Road in my case.
