Hello,

With modifications threads end cylinder bolt, can i fit an Atlas cylinder on a Commando 72? Perhaps i need to modify the liner for the conrod passage too?

Gilles

I spoke to Norman White about this, my atlas barrels are not spiggoted and he said no problem just bore the holes to 3/8 and all will be well. I haven't done it yet but I will be. Obviously taped to take 3/8 head bolts.

The Atlas cylinders have spigots so you would need an atlas head as well.

My technical english is bad ... :( what is spigot? (i am not sure in my translate...)

Alrighty gillou, testing plugs in the mower proves you are cut out for Commando devotions and will be pleased again soon. Got compression and sparks so leaves Amals or fuel taps or big wing bug or a sock dropped in tank.

Only some Atlas cylinders have spiggotts.
Yes for before 1964 (was it, or 1966 ?), and after that none.

Spigots are the cylinder liner projecting above the level of the top gasket surface,
and fit into recesses machined into the head - on the edge of the combustion chamber.

Atlas didn't use this system after that 1964/66 changeover date.
If Gillou hasn't noticed this, his cylinder doesn't have a spigot.....

And the spigots can be ground off to suit a non spigot head.

Ok,

Now i understant what is the spigot. Other question, with transformations machining and weld, is it possible to transform a standard cylinder fixing to MK3 fixing?
