I got this idea from an old Beemer I saw with a short tube welded to the frame and a piece of broom stick handle stuck into the tube holding the bike up in place of the original long ago fallen off kickstand. I resorted to this after having no kickstand and having my bike towed for parking it on a sidewalk leaning against a wall.

Its a piece of 3/8" diameter 7075 alum (won't bend) turned down to about .3" on one end. You fold up the hollow peg and plug in the aluminum rod. You also fold the peg to kickstart the bike. The folding peg was drilled to accept the aluminum rod. 2 plastic bushings are zip tied to the frame to store the kickstand. A bracket was welded to the folding peg to keep it from twisting while on the kickstand. The kickstard lever was heated & bent to clear the folded peg and the same was done to the shift lever to clear the kick start. I carry a plastic disc in my pocket for parking on hot soft asphalt. It weighs nothing compared to the usual huge chunk of iron that bolts to the frame. Its a solution that some of you custom cafe bike heads can consider when trying to streetify your featherbeds. Might even work on Commando rearsets.

I'm going to face this on Ms Peel but don't know how I'll do it yet. I've had side stand bolt loosen/bend to point of useless and later a drilled out too much cast iron side stand fracture off, so had to lean on stuff or sick an Al tube on as a cane to park in the opens. I've a very light Al bicycle side stand on hand I'm considering but its pivot bolt don't seem robust enough to thrust, so considering a swing down tube that doubles as part of Peel's crash cage. Harley as some adaptable Al stands that afix to rear area of frame that might work out similar to your position. Won't pollute your post with photo of Peels failed side stand as only support after her center stand fractured early on so removed to notice the lighter effect on THE Gravel handling.

Kickstand on a Pursang is a 1x1 square tube that fits in a square bracket on the frame. Has a big washer welded to the button to help with softer ground. The square tubing prevents it from rotating and falling. I think that's similar to what you did.

Thats a great idea, will save me a bit of time fixing the centre stand holes in my cradle and making a new center stand to clear the 2:1 exhaust

Hobot wants a contest for the world's lightest sidestand.

here's something I fabbed up a while ago. Bike is '49 BSA M21 @ 714cc.

LOL! ML I'm flabbergasted at your miminalist side stand design, I give you win, so far. No way could Peel get away with such a shorty or such close in stance point on such a tiny foot print, ugh. I'd given up confused on Peel's design, waiting for more inspiration and out of the box thinking, which this post has mixed me up more on now. I guess its time to lop off the lug and start anew. If I plan it right only one more welding shop trip with Peel pieces.

Sweet side stand ludwig - takes the prize for most sleek aligned and light. Sourcing tappered tube was a great find. Peel's issue is frame rail sits almost a foot off the ground. Would love someone to figure it out for me I just want to ride light as I can.

OHhhh, ok ludwig, I didn't know making a tapered tube was easy to do. I've been eyeballing the left overs from Peel's crash cage - thick walled Al tube, for just such a process. My SV650 stand has far worse loose slack than a Norton design can get, so lets SuVee lean farther than intended, to point I store with a block of wood under it, but not too tall a block, as the race tires are so thin they don't hold air too long, so as tires lower the lean angle the CoG changes and can tip over at some point - I found out by finding it fallen against garage door. I see Harley stands with internal spring mechanism with adjustable length I might be able to adapt for Peel.
