Working Bodges

I have seen a few inventive fixes but the trouble this guy went through for 2.00 worth of parts is just astounding. For want of a screw and a tab the maker fashioned a wire brace and used the string off a toy and it held for years like this. Please post the best working bodges here.

Just in case someone notices : Well yes I know the switch is working backwards that is part of the beauty of this bodge. About 1/4 of the switches on BSA's will work this way after being broken inside. I think that is why we see pictures of the stock set up so often when people are trying to get these working. On a broken switch there is no continuity when the lever is released only when it is pulled back, switching the switch from a normally closed to a normally open via this bodge. So maybe the owner just tossed the tab,screw and shake proof washer and this was really a switch fixing bodge after all. I was not there at the time this was done. And I can't remember if I had to replace the switch or repair it it's been a while. It did work right when it left my shop though.

No it's a piece of neon Green rubbery plastic off some toy and it lasted for years. I found this on a bike I re-did and just thought it clever enough to record. I fixed the fix but it was a good one given the time line there was a time that these parts were not found easily 1980-90's so a bit of set and setting is needed to get the cleverness.

Not quite in the same league, and off my 16H rather than my Commando, but can you tell which is the correct plug for the oil level hole on the primary chain case? Yes the random bolt wrapped in duct tape is the bodge.
The bike had been "restored sometime in the past and regularly used since" when i bought it from out of town on the basis of a couple of hazy cell phone photo's. It turns out "restored" is a rather optimistic interpretation.
For the sharp eyed, the safety wire hole in the hex head of the new bolt is because it is actually a Manx sump plug - i won't be racing the 16H. :lol:

Oh yea Hap Jones is a good switch for a while I could get these for 3.00 but now they are 7-8 bucks the savior of rear sets.
