Alan .... my lovely wife took up music when she retired at age 58 and took up music in a program called "New Horizons Music Program for seniors " , had to be 50 to join ( founded in Boston ) .... 9 years later she can play all percussion instruments ( specialty is drum kit ) , mallet instruments ( specialty vibraphone ) she is expert at her specialties and has toured and performed extensively including Cuba .... she has really enjoyed it , plus her practice schedule has freed me up to spend more time with and on my bikes .... go for it ....!

I'm 29. Rebuilt my first bike at 21. Bought my first Norton a month ago, currently rebuilding. I'm loving my Commando and I haven't even ridden it yet!

72 in 14 days
1958 Ariel in 73, got it because it matched Buddy Hollys
1974 850 74-76
1975 MKIII in 2013

I thought I already replied here but I suppose the gray matter ain't what it used to be. I am 70 right now. Got my first Norton new in 1971 in North Finchely, London. Cost new back then was $900. Toured Britain and the continent and shipped bike to Los Angeles.
Sold bike soon after that. Had an Interstate briefly when I had young ones but sold that. Got my current 1971 Commando in 2001 for $3500. Bike has been bullet proof ever since. I leave the thing alone unless something breaks and do not buy into all these wizz bang updates espoused by many here. It is a 1971 time capsule and it performs quite well thank you. Motor and trans have never been apart and she has clocked 35 or 40k miles. Starts first kick after sitting for months. I also have a 1970 Bonneville T120RT. Not half the bike the Norton is. And, I went to London for a Bonneville in 1971. None to be had, they exported them all. Just as well because I love NORTONS.

Been riding Brit iron off and on for about 47 years. Had a few interesting bikes over the years including a 60's Ducati 125 Bronco and a 64 250 Scrambler, a Moto Parilla Wildcat 250, T'riumph T-100C, '71 Commando, '80 T-140, T-140 ES, T20 SS Cub and 53 Vincent. I'm :eek:62 at the moment and still have the Tiger Cub, the T140 ES, the Vincent and more recently, a 1974 850 Commando. The 850 Commando is, by far, the most fun to ride. :D

I am 69 now, although I can hardly believe it myself. Got my first bike at 17, an ex Dutch army Matchless G3L, Commando owner since I was 25, and still own and ride that bike today. The Commando is by far my favorite.

Apart from a couple of young pups spoiling the trend here, you guys make me feel great!

I turned 50 this year. Got my first motorbike aged 12 when my Dad bought me a 21 year old Tiger Cub in order to occupy me and keep me out of trouble.

It nearly worked.

I’ve still got the Cub, which will be 60 next year.

Well it's about time that Cub got a big bore kit, 4 valve head and beefed up cases - wasting all that money on Commandos, Humph !

Oh I forgot, turned 60 last month, doesn't seem five minutes since I was dressing down to see The Clash at Eric's club Liverpool.

Just seen this this thread - 61 this year, started riding (illegally) at 17, fell in love with Nortons at university, bought my 850 in 2003, put it on the road in 2015. It's so different to my Tridents and bevel Ducati, far easier to find things to improve on :) and a real blast to ride.

Well the real shock is the thread started in 2009 and that is nearly ten years now. Im looking at 68 in the spring have the 850 Mk2 which is the
go to bike. Still have a 73 Trident a 69 Interceptor and a 71 Rickman Interceptor. Im still a Trident man at heart probably because it is easier to
start! Speaking of starting, first bike was a S90 Honda then a 125cc Aermacchi Harley a BSA 250 then a 650 then the Trident added a 72 Norton
a bunch of 750 Triumps a Enfield Inter a BMW R90s then the current 850 and the Enfields. So still at it although only ride in the good weather.

Time moves on, doesn't it? I posted on this thread when I was 68. In January I'll turn 77. Bought my first Commando (PR) in '71 and many more since. Still riding them, as well as a modern 961. Planning to do so as long as possible. I still occasionally see someone over 80 still riding, so I'm optimistic about the future.

My second bike was a clipped out 1965 S90 reasets mega the lot. I bought in 1966 to take my test on, my first had blown up, and what a great little bike too. And somehow I passed sold it and bought a chopped Sunbeam S8 for £11. I replaced the ape hangers the following day with Vincent straights fitted an Amal remote needle TT cos it looked good and rode it all summer. :)

30, got seriously into classics a couple of years ago, when the old man and I did our bike tests, he's 59.
