Just asking, as I have to take out my swing arm and sort the play out and whilst there I was thinking of putting a Podtronic rectifier under the battery tray. Goffy sells them here in the UK and though similar in appearance, dimensions are slightly smaller and the capacity greater (300W) so should run cooler. He used to sell the Podtronics unit, but has gone over to the A Reg unit which is a far cheaper unit. Having had good service from Goffy in the past, I very much tempted to get one and and give it go and do away with the old rectifier and Zeners.

I would not make it unassessable. They can and do go bad.

I think the A Regs are made by Al Osborne, who is a UK NOC member and seems to be well thought of.
His website is http://www.aoservices.co.uk/index.htm
Another vote for making it accessible, mine is hung off the frame gusset at the back of the battery area.

Cheers All,

Thanks for the advice, I think I will mount it on the rear of the battery area first. I know the A Reg dynamo regulators have been around for many years with good service and reliability, so I will give this product a go.

Hi All,

Bit the Bullet and bought one at Netley Marsh autojumble where Goffy had a stand.

It fitted well but my MKIII has the same coloured wiring to the Andover Norton manual but used for a different purposes, a problem I have had in the past due to it being an export model that never got exported - thanks to Mike Jackson for pointing this out to me at a Norton day (he remembered selling it new in the UK when he bought the stock off NVT when they went under, assembled it and sold it)

Due to the swingarm being back in use, I fitted it to the rear of the battery area, between the gusset plate and the mudguard, sleeved the 4 wires and connected them to the rectifier terminals, taped up the zener connectors and left the old rectifier and zeners in place ready to use if the A Reg unit fails.

Also treated myself to some nice LED instrument lights as well for the MKIII clocks, nice crisp white light instead of a off white candle type glow that I had.
