As the caption reads - who sells these chromed, steel, double-loop fork braces?

I have one I want to sell (like new), and want to post it at a fair price (below market price).

Anyone???

Who sells these Commando fork braces?
 
That was made in the 70's. The same company made them for BMWs. Unsure of the price but I think it was around $125. PCC in San Jose CA?

I want the bike too.... It has mucho appeal. Just something untamed & wild about it reaching into your dark side.... Nice brace also.
 
That was Born Again Bikes' first paying client, Charlie. He rode it quite a bit over 10 years, then gave it to a friend.
 
This one fits Commando forks without the slightest bit of tweaking or shimming.

Also, the OEM fork brace is cleverly hidden under the fender, serving double duty as a fender bracket.

Alas, not just Cdo, many, manybikes have the same thing.:cool:
 
I have installed two of them, bought one new once. It takes a long time to get the shims just right. Remove the front wheel, pull up a chair. bolt up one side measure the other, divide by 2. That is a good starter point. The trouble begins when all four fender bolts are tightened and the fork legs are pulled inward. I installed the axle so I could lift the fork legs as a pair ...many times...to check for free movement. It took a few hours to do it.
I liked the results but it is a big lump of metal up front. And the Norton is a good handler anyway
 
forgot to mention that the fender is near impossible to fit. The tiny fender bolts seem hardly up to the job. And it would have been usefull if the bolt holes had been countersunk.
 
The fender mount bit is nowhere near as strong as an aftermarket fork brace. And, I've NEVER seen a straight fender/brace.

I agree the fender "bridge" itself is inadequate, especially for those running with short/aftermarket fenders that don't use the stays (dunstall etc). I fabricated a bolt together brace... but I also machined the slider faces. I could see problems fettling with something off the shelf for this pupose
 
I would think that if the brace is installed correctly, it would be an improvement; after all, that's what they are designed for, and improve every other bike they are correctly installed on.

When I installed this one the first time, I had the bike on a bike stand and the front wheel off. I left the fork caps off and manually moved the forks thru their complete range of travel; I perceived no stiction whatsoever.

@ludwig, do you care to elaborate on why you would not use this fork brace?

Just because it has been in my possession? Because of the design? Because it is used? Other?

lots of opinions.... :rolleyes: I installed a Hyde(FYI a PITA) after I saw fork twisting on my MK3 with improved brakes, see #13 post of this thread
