How many of you guys can lift the rear wheel of a Commando off the road by grabbing the front brake ?

I thought that was a 1007?


Nope, white plates, it is the 90 degree crank 750, 1007 would have red side plates. Watson provided bikes for both F750, this one, and the 1007.

This bike was sold to Bruno Perlinski, who stripped it....gone....

BTW jseng1 that picture is taken in the same place as Fast Eddie's avatar....

It ain't raw power that makes you wheelie there, it is coming up the hill with the throttle even half open as the ground then falls away, more balls, more air.......if you want to see how it is really done:

You know what this forum needs? A RACING SECTION!

That way, commentary regarding street bikes not being up to racing standards (or the like), could be left in the appropriate section.

Actually, most forums have racing sections, for that very reason.

Certainly this forum has it's very fair share of racing and former racing members, and racebike owners...

You know, I get where you are coming from, and I am sure some of the has been racer banter gets annoying at time for those who really don't care much about racing, but as an example I only have a race bike, so I might post everything on the race section. That may not be good. Take a look at the thread where mainly me and Brooking 850, both racers have been discussing 'worm oil pump worm gear'....

They are both race bikes which means we may be looking at the problem sooner, or more often, tha road riders, but Comnoz' recent post suggests it is potential issue for all forum users.
 
The main point of racing motorcycles is to 'improve the breed'. Of course road riders are not interested in that, so if you ever have a problem - DON'T ASK.

It’s true, that’s the same location as my avatar. It really must be easy to wheelie there as under normal circumstances, the only time my front wheel leaves the floor is when it’s being loaded into the van !
 
The bike below is what got me involved in Nortons. Found cheap as a frame and partial motor/tranny in an alley, then built up with junkyard parts. After some porting it was pulling 2nd gear wheelies with low gearing. I was so impressed I turned it into a roadracer.

There is probably still room to move the motor forward in that bike. With Tritons, they can be a bit vague in high speed corners when the mounts on the front of the motor and the frame front mounts. It is enough to destroy confidence, especially if you are not using grippy tyres in the dry and even if you are using them in the wet. There is a thing about modern historic racing - most of the young guys are very tyre dependent. If I ever race these days and it rains, I know I am in with good chance. In the old days everyone had shit tyres, so the fast guys WERE fast. In the wet, it is all due to conditioning - if you change your mind the slightest little bit, you crash - you need to be extremely smooth and steady.

If you think about Manx Nortons and Andy Molnar, how close are Minnovation and Seeley Commandos to being a similar arrangement ?
