Just bought a 73, Combat, 750? Roadster and on closer inspection i am finding hidden extras! The barrels are not standard manufacture and i can't find anything on the Net that look like them. They are painted black, which may be masking a name, but they appear to be unique in that the left and right side fins are completetly joined together, top to bottom, via the casting process for a strip about 30 mm wide. i hope i have explained it well enough. Can anyone enlighten me. The previous owner said the engine had been upgraded with the Super Blend bearing and head work for unleaded fuel. plus the massive breather on the timing side. What have I bought!!

Can you post some pictures. It sounds like a Dunstall 810 kit. Aluminum barrels, sometimes people painted them.
Here's mine for reference

thanks for the quick replies and pics, but they don't look like the Dunstal barrels. Not enough fins. :D
will take some shots and post tonight.

If it is from 1973 production then it wouldn't be an original factory Combat.

By 1973, all Commando engines would have had 'Superblends' (either R&M/RHP or FAG).

Could this be a '72 production model (look for a month/year date stamp on the headstock certification plate) or the first three or four digits of the certification plate/engine/gearbox number should also give an approximate indication of the date of manufacture and may also indicate if it could have been built as a Combat model originally (pre 211110)?
