Just purchased my first British bike last month. It's a 1972 Norton Commando, Rodster, mostly stock with a little over 12,000 miles on the clock. I don't think it's a combat model. I've been reading everything I can find on Nortons to try to educate myself on them. This forum is great.

So here is my question, It is missing the security bolt on the rear rim, is this going to be a problem? The rims are stock and I have new Avon tires mounted on them.

Thanks Flat Tire

I have been running with out one for a long time . ( 1975 MKIII ) I weighs so much that i always need a half ton of ungodly weight to balance the wheel. Personally , i don't think that a Norton really has enough berries to spin the tire around the rim.

You don't need it. Some people say you need to plug the hole in the rim so the tube doesn't bulge out but I haven't had a problem with it.

I've been riding Triumphs and Nortons for many years without those pesky rim-locks.

However, your Norton engine just might have enough "berries" to spin the tire relative to the rim, given the right technique, though I've never done it.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm not going to worry about it. I can't wait to get it out on the road after the snow melts.
