What the 1978 Models looked like

Obviously lurking humor is nothing on this special appears to be '78 vintage and frame not even all Norton for better lower sassy seat height. Its looks/protions laid back stance looks good to me and the components all nice arranged functional finished - so is there something that don't fit the basic Commando cafe style beside the wind resisting chin bag? I'd bet if Norton offered such a model it'd be the bench mark to aspire too now.

Interesting that they went back to drum brakes. Not that I blame them, the disks were pretty wooden.

On the other hand, if there is anything inside the cases and the cases hold oil, $850 is not a bad for a parts bike.

1970 serial number. Bolt up rear wheel and drum brake add credence to this date.

I thought April Fool's Day was over with.

Indeedy !!
1978 only in someones dreams...

Thats a very stylishly shaped tank.
If it would work with an Interstate seat and the proper Commando spine frame, I want one.
I think....

Well the '78's were all assembled from left overs after production shut down in prior years so some of it could be true.

It's a very rare model, and on eBay, get your bid in.

Everyone knows that tanks grow on trees,
it could be a lot simpler to find out where this tank growing tree is, and go from there.

The Yamaha thing is an insult to the Norton name, the top one however, looks like it has been well put together. Got to go round corners better than some of the Orange County Chopper stuff. IMHO

"were thinking 1978 or later ! "

That's probably where the confusion lies, as it's obviously later than a '78.

Would like to see "wooden" removed from print along with "iconic". Way over used. The Norton front disc brake isn't all that bad and much better than the TLS drum.

Cool looking bike but not enough support on the rear isos for my liking though!!
