I've been having endless problems on my rocket 3 with the pilot jets blocking up
I'm running 28 mm mikunis
Not that it makes a difference but they do seem prone to blocking
The petrol tank is aluminium and clean inside,so I can only conclude the black shit is coming from the fuel hose
The hose I'm using is supposed to be ethanol proof if that actually means anything!!
This is out of just one float bowl

Baz, I’ve become a big fan of Motion Pro clear hose. I always used to use black, but nowadays I like clear coz you can see if there’s any shit in there and you can see if / when the hose starts to go ‘off’.

It’s its thin wall, so easy to route and super flexible, so it avoids incurring stress also super resistant to kinks (oo-err Mrs!)

Of course, it ain’t cheap, but realistically you don’t use much per bike.

Japanese carbs are VERY sensitive to even the finest debris in the system in my experience, flooding and blocking on stuff that Amal’s wouldn’t even notice !

Looks good to me 👍

Hello,

I know its generally frowned upon by some. And it goes hard. And it goes yellow. And may not be totally ethanol proof.

But I am still using (as I always did) the clear reinforced PVC hose.

And when you have to remove it/ the carb/ the tap/ the filter, I just get a new piece. Doesnt leak, doesnt go soft, doesnt gum up the carb.

It does go rock hard and forms to a shape (and yu may need to cut it off) if you are fortunate enough not to have to touch it for a year or so!!

Cheers

Same here.

Cheap enough & dead easy to replace when needed.

I'm not in the UK (obviously! ) but I use clear yellow Tygon - won't contribute any particles. Doesn't harden with fuel/time unlike most clear hose.
I'm sure I will be available over there too.
Motion Pro (US) sell it too.
Cheers

Hmmm I may have been wrong on my assumption of fuel hose delamination
I drained the fuel tank and put a bore scope inside and saw some black crap I didn't know was in there

Looks like some sort of sealant
It's got a bit of a radius to it so I'm guessing it could be from where the neck of the filler cap is bonded into the tank

Baaack to the beginning: I had the same tiny black silt in the bowls. Bike had nicely made black braided covered line when I bought it. Never again. Went with Tygon that I had from when I lived in the states but that is all gone now.
I plan on going with FE's spend now save hassle later suggestion.
The old school nylon reinforced clear tube is not the best for a powerunit that flexes like a Commando.

Looks to me like your tank was once lined Baz, and then someone stripped the lining, but some debris was left behind.

Clear hose still a good idea IMO as it allows you to see, thus giving you an indicator into what’s going on.

...and although this is anti Pingel, the disposable clear filters offer the same advantage.
I wonder if they make a glass bodied Pingel? Haven't looked yet! I have the aluminium bodied type.

True, but… at least they’re very easy to unscrew and check inside.

And, they are 100% sure to be 100% ethanol proof.

Clear hose (so you can see what’s going on) and a Pingel filter is therefore a bloody good combo IMO.

The only thing I don’t like about them is they’re heavy, and can wobble about a lot with vibration etc.

The trouble with plastic filters is A) is the plastic ethanol proof and B) they are glued together.

If the plastic, or glue, fails, (seen both, many times) you’re in trouble.

I’m using some 90 degree plastic ones at the moment due to space constraints, fortunately I’ve had them on long enough to conclude they’re OK, and I bought a few of them at the same time, so I know I can use these for many years to come.

But when buying some, you can’t know if they’re gonna fail till you try ‘em. Your best hope is to stick to known good brands and hope they are not counterfeit…

Or buy Pingel.

Anything is possible
This tank/seat unit is a JP customs hurricane unit made in the early 80s
Anything could happen happened in the last 40 years
It's leak free and very clean and corrosion free inside considering it's age
