Nope, he didn't tell my why there a big yellow duck in that town just that it's going from town to town. Did some investigating of my own, see:

In 1966 before moving to the PI, we visited may Aunt in southern Alabama. One night, everyone went out to the front yard and you heard things like "What the hell is that thar thing, is it a G.D. UFO?" This went on for a while and then switched to "Should we go look at that thar thing?" They finally decided to leave the UFO alone.

It turns out that that was the opening day of the KFC (Kentucky Fried Chicken) and in those days they had a lite up big bucket up on a pole that rotated. Slightly foggy night and a couple of miles away it did look "out of this world"
