Hey guys, thought I'd test that theory,

I only ride my beautiful 961 CR in the brilliant sunshine (luckily I live on the Sunshine Coast). Call me a 'fair weather rider' and I'd have to agree; if the long range weather forecast says that there's a 2% chance of rain I take the 990 Adventure!! Consequently the bike is generally pretty clean.

Following every ride recently (or I've only just noticed) there is black dirt/dust/detritous collecting on the lower front of the engine between the downpipes. I strongly suspect that this is brake dust from the front stoppers or exhaust fumes from a (badly sealed) lower down pipe junction. Is anybody else experiencing this. See, told you it was a dumb question!!

Also I have general grime and burnt oil residue on the cooling fins. What is the best way you guys have found of cleaning the cooling fins?

Ok ok, clean less and ride more, I know!

Thanks.

Steve

Its common to have loose header nuts. That would result in stained fins close to the three nuts and flange on either side. I get road tar in front of the engine and brake dust. But comes off easy with wd-40. And ive seen the oil lines leak down in front of engine.

Check hoses for oil drips. If none then likely just brake dust and road grime.
