I am getting a little sick and tired of the controversial crap. This topic may be a refreshingly and potentially non controversial. For goodness sake, yank the thing and flush it already.
Yes, I found this down under pump, lodge within the confine of the spinning pinion. A couple years ago and few months after a case and cam change, I went in to check cam timing and there it was. I feel lucky and my oil pressure increased a bit afterwards.
Inspect cast iron brittle oil pump drive snout for beginning of fracture as its takes the brunt of cam chain and crank end jerking of seizures on pinon gear.
At first glance , it looks like a tap to me .. A little beat up , but if it def isn't a securing screw ..... could it be a tap that some how fell in ? :?
