I know this may put me in a small minority, but I always thought the XLCR was cool. And this is a more recent pic, with the bike having a few upgrades..

MotoGP style front brake cooling ducts? My goodness, wretched excess me thinks. This guy’s got some design chops! I’d have a good look at this if it ever came into production!
And why have Ducati never re-released an updated Sports Classic?

NEO-RETRO: Ducati SuperSport 950 from France.
It’s been 20 years since Ducati released the Sport Classic range and lit a fire under the modern retro scene,pipeburn.com
Have you considered a RE Interceptor 650 ? If you like the BSA , the RE may work for you .Well considering the imminent demise of the 961 platform and the many competitors to the V4 I'm going to pull this thread back towards 'modern classics' such as the Ducati Sports Classic mentioned above. Went to the meeting at the National Motorcycle Museum and again ended up with a small crowd around my 961CR doing sound checks but on the BSA stand saw this very lightly customised bike which caught my attention. Very attractive price of course just needs to shed a few pounds..... View attachment 122290
In fact at least in my mind , TVS stepping away from the 961 may be the best thing for us. This should allow the aftermarket to finally start making things available again. The frame/swingarm is the only part that is made in house by TVS.Have you considered a RE Interceptor 650 ? If you like the BSA , the RE may work for you .
By after market, do you mean oem supplier? Or the aftermarket as in non oem parts? In fact at least in my mind , TVS stepping away from the 961 may be the best thing for us. I have heard that RE have re-styled the Interceptor a bit, and supposedly for 2026 is now a 750.Have you considered a RE Interceptor 650 ? If you like the BSA , the RE may work for you .
It would be nice if the aftermarket could supply some parts for the 961. But true, with such low volume sales of the 961, what supplier would be interested in making 961 parts. How many could they reasonable expect to sell?By after market, do you mean oem supplier? Or the aftermarket as in non oem parts?
I don’t see the aftermarket ever doing the 961 as not many were ever made or sold.
