What’s the best none Norton Norton ?

Now this I like - a lot! For reasons I can’t readily explain. My guess, the proportions/lines are just right.

I’d park it next to the Norton; at a respectful distance of course!

OK, nothing super special here but I do like the styleeee! Nicely done with the paint scheme/ presentation. Gives me more ideas for if I ever decide to paint the TAB tank!!

Still suprised that Triumph ceased production of the Thruxton - sales linked of course. In reality I suppose, it fell foul of the success of other bikes in their own lineup.

Very nice. I posted this before but I always admired the Unikat custom build, with a few little tweaks. One of the few bikes which might just tempt me away from the 961CR

Yes - we had this conversation a few times on the forum! Opinion split on 'an obvious and pointless fake' to 'at least they made boring throttle bodies look a bit more interesting'. No right answer there.......

It looks really comfortable.

Hmmmm - appreciate the idea of riding a 2-stroke but looks like it was designed by a committee.
My saying, along similar lines, is:

“It was built in a small shed”…

Meaning, as well executed as things may be, the builder didn’t have to ability to stand far enough back to see the whole…

This is very nice indeed - for sale just down the road from me. Not sure about the risk of potential problems arising from running this bike in though.

Errr, you realise that’s a Norton… not a none Norton…?!

Potential problems? Depends 100% on the last builder.

But the truth is, IF built correctly, these engines can be more reliable than 961s.

And you can buy EVERYTHING for them, usually with very quick delivery.

You can actually build a brand new (and bullet proof) engine from new parts if you so desire. That’s not a metaphor or exaggeration.

But you need to be an enthusiastic mechanic to stay on top of routine maintenance. And you’d need to buy quite a large collection of new tools.

And worst of all… you’d have to frequent the ‘classic’ forums…

Ok, I may have extended the parameters a tad to include ‘none (standard) Nortons!!👍

Fair call ref problems - cos’ she looks pretty doesn’t mean a new build has been done well I guess.
Kinda enjoy stumbling around the bike doing the maintenance though - you know, breaking things as I go!! My only redeeming feature is that I’ll only break something once - usually!

I think if I were in the market for such a machine I’d probably have a go at this one, bury my head in the sand, cross my fingers and hope for the best - at the same time slowly trying to force it into reliability. Exactly like my 961 really!!

Classic forum would be great - just need to stay out of “The Pub’!!🙃

Now then what's in this can? Oh its worms.......

So is an 'old' Norton engine built with new parts more reliable than a Stu rebuilt 961? I admit that spares for a new/old build would probably be easier and mostly cheaper to get hold of..... 🤔
