I thought I would share this strange problem I had with my MK2. While out riding with Craig Bryant last weekend every time I used the brake while stopped at a light, the bike stalled. I thought no big deal, something must be shorted, but I thought it was unusual as I don't use any lucas connectors and am very thorough when it comes to wiring. Anyway, rode home trying not to use brakes too much. Then last week I started at the tail light and could not find any signs of a problem, looked in headlight and all brake wires with no signs of an issue anywhere. About 3 hours into this I decided the wiring was fine, so what else? I have a boyer powerbox mounted next to the battery and have it wired to boyer specs (been there about 10K miles). I removed wires, started bike and it was charging ok to battery. After deliberating for hours I figured since I was going to use a powerbox on my MK3 build anyway I would buy one and try it.

Here I want to say THANKS to John from Moore's Motorcycles https://moorescyclecenter.com in Anaheim (2 miles away from me) . I did not know they existed and John had a powerbox in stock. How rare is that! Anyway fitted it and went for a brilliant 200 mile ride yesterday, bike ran better and did not miss a beat. About 60 miles at 80-90 on freeway and the rest powering through mountains.

The old powerbox was failing or had failed, the applying of the brake (light) was throwing the battery (low voltage) over the edge and stalling it, even with the Pazon in. I expect it was running too advanced with the low battery too before, but I did not notice.

Cheers

Elicktrickery ; Had a Mk 1 2 door 2 litre Cortina Id wired so ignition was live with the brakes on in reverse gear . Figured itd be a bit difficult
for somebody to drive of in it like that . Reverse & Stop lamps were the same with stop light switch permanently live , like the horn .

Theres normally a Rational Explanation . 8)

I bought stuff from Moores in the past. Always satisfied with their knowledge and service.

Unfortunately, most of that knowledge base ended when Keith passed away several months ago. The new owner is okay, but does not have the instant knowledge base and diagnostic skills Keith had. British motorcycles lost a gem when we lost Keith.
