Weird Place to stamp an Engine Number

Hello all,
Once again, thank you all for sharing your knowledge. I see the engine number was stamped on this motor in a weird place, what do you all make of that?

ah ok, thanks. For some reason I thought the numbers were usually stamped further back towards the rear wheel. Thanks!

Gearbox has numbers stamped on top of it as well.

Some late '71 models had it here:
