There is a first time for everything I think.
Riding my 1972 today and after stopping for gas, the red light didn't come on when ready to re-start.

Read the manual and when I grounded the white/brown lead and the light came on. That means a bad WLA or a charging problem.
Substituting with another WLA, everything checked out fine.

So I opened up the bad WLA and found some corroded magic thing.
Maybe it will work again after cleaning.
Anyone else have experiences with a bad warning light assimilator?

Warning Light Magic...

No experiance like yours but I was just wondering if I should put mine back in. I took it out of the system after putting in a Sparx solid state Reg/Rec etc. I think you just helped reinforce my decision to leave it out and have one less thing that could fail when I'm 600 miles from home on some mountain road populated more by Yogi the hungry brown Bear then friendly humans.

There is no reason to disconnect it even with an aftermarket regulator. When my original one died it just kept the light on all the time and didn't kill anything. Typically the relay coil opens up when they go which doesn't hurt anything. I went with the Cool Cat unit. I am kind of used to the original warning light after 40 years. I have a Signal Dynamics "Heads-Up Voltage Monitor" with the indicator in the Turn Signal amber lampholder also. There are past posts about this. This one is in a nice small metal box and costs about the same as the Amotostuff. It offers 5 voltage states: blinking Red, Red, Amber, Green, and blinking Green. I find it a little distracting - kind of like an oil gauge. Too much information!

I noticed on mine that the WLA was crushed a little on one side, kinda a sharp crease.
For all these years I thought it was the turn signal flasher. I don't have signals on mine.
So, am I to understand that if I just unplug it and toss it nothing will happen?
I think it would be nice to have the light working again but in the mean time can it just be unplugged?
