Dave, your solution is cheap and reversible. I have always found a lot of greasey dirt around there don't the junk find it's way in? I have had rain storms on bike trips destroy drive chains does centrifical force keep the water out? norbsa

Primary venting

Now, this might just be a little too much “rocket science” applied to an old British bike. - I’m not sure I would do it myself, but anyway, this gadget might just do the job. The company I work for produces lighting fixtures both for indoor and outdoor use, and we have had problems with fixtures “sucking” in moisture through cable glands, whenever fixtures cool down and a vacuum occurs, resulting in a light fixture filled with water. By mounting this GORE-TEX “membrane vent” in the housing, air is now allowed to get in and out, but water is blocked out. Works great.
