vendors for commando parts

i'd like to do a lot of maintenance on my bike now and over the winter and was wondering if there are any "one stop" vendors of quality parts for these bikes? i'd like to pick up some spare parts as well and i'd like to avoid paying 10+ shipping fees to 10 or more different sellers on ebay. thanks in advance for any help!

Fred and Ella at oldbritts.com are great and they carry about everything you will need for your Commando. I have purchased a bulk of the items I needed when getting my 850 up and running and Fred is very knowledgeable. He and his wife have answered many questions for me to keep me on the right track!!!

i'm sure you are going to get a lot of replies to your post, but there are a number of people out there who will do the best they can for you. Have you joined the INOA? if not, this will open up a whole new world to you. Jim Noll at BBC will get just about anything you need, and he is a good guy and willing to help. MAP in Florida is a good place also, but be careful, because a lot of what Marino sells is after market, but Marino himself is as good as they come. Mike at Waldridge is very knowledgeable and has a good array of parts, but same advice applies as to MAP. RGM motors in England has pretty much everything, but the wait time from across the pond can be tedious. join as many clubs, organizations as you can, and you will find everything you need

+1 for Fred and Ella. They have supplied 90% of the parts I have needed. Fred is very knowledgeable and Ella will get him to a phone to answer questions if he can take the break. A-1 people and business.

It used to be Xanders Brit bikes. Big Art was close (45 minutes), a heck of a nice guy and the visits were always fun. Sure miss him since his passing. Lately it has been (#1) Old Brits, (#2) Norvil, (#3) Eurotrash and (#4) Commando Specailties. I'll give Morrie's place a try for sure.

1. OldBritts -- FAR and away #1; good service, very knowledgable, and almost every part you could want
2. CommandoSpecialties -- Have always been quick to help with any issues I've had with any purchase I've made
3. DomiRacer -- Can be very good, but finding parts is a bit annoying on their website and they don't keep stock information current for the website so make sure you call in if you want to order from them
4. eBay -- Depends on what you're looking for. Some of the more obscure parts force you to buy on the secondary market

There are, of course, others. These are just the vendors I've ordered from.

There are at least half a dozen US vendors that have everything excet maybe heads and crank cases and frames on hand. For that I doubt anyone has the warehouse full of piles of various Commando and Commando parts as Baxter Cycle, not counting the new parts stocked. But I've had long conversations with about every major and minor dealer there is. When my crank case blow apart or I destroy a gear box shell I go down my world wide list getting prices and advise that will last me a life time.
There's over a dozen more around the world, The best one for prices changes with seasons and currency manipulations. Open the very first and permanent post to Jerrie's forum and spent the time there to get up to speed on what and who you need to know on servicing scope of The Commando.

I want to second this post with the exception that I haven't used DomiRacer but that is not to say they aren't good.
OldBritts also has a truly great site for information and ease of ordering parts.

Get on DomiRacer mail list to receive their poster like sales flyers that cover Norton and whole bunch of other era cycles with stuff you'd not think practical to list being so small an item and market for it. British Spare in NZ is worth knowing about too. When it grocery stores keep an eye out for Walnecks magazine with vendors of BI you don't hardly find other wise. Many of the named vendors have catalogs with after market items besides factory spares and are a delight to window shop.

My 2 cents,... I would also say Old Britts is my #1 choice, the web site is invaluable and you can learn a lot just by going through it, they ship very quickly and are very nice people. That said sometimes you may need to go back to the bikes home land for some things. Personaly I have bought a bunch from RGM & have allways been shocked at how fast things get here. Sometimes faster then from places here in the USA. Look over all the web sites, Norvil can also be good. After buying stuff from the "Ebay sites" I have learned that while they can be good, it seems to me in the interest of keeping prices down they may not allways have the best quality items. The long term guys here can help you make good decisions, if there is something specific you need you may want to ask about it here first & learn to use the "Search" feature. There is nothing Commando that hasn't been talked about here. Good luck & post some pictures, that will make Swoosh happy. Oh & welcome.

One other thing I feel is worth mentioning, at least in MY experience...

Emgo parts are more often than not of lesser quality and seem to require modification (again, more often than not) to fit 'right'.

That said, I'm using several Emgo parts on my bike, but they have been constant sources of frustration during the build. If you can swing the extra money to avoid Emgo, I say do it. JMO.

I'd say "Support your local dealer!", otherwise there may be none left eventually.
For big, not very profitable parts that the local dealer (understandably) does not stock- say crankcases, frames etc- you can always turn to Andover Norton direct. We have all varieties of Commando frames, crankcases etc normally available ex-stock. http://www.andover-norton.co.uk

My situation was different, not in the UK, USA, Oz, NZ, sitting at the edge of the Namib Desert in Namibia. I needed parts for a ground up nut and bolt restoration/rebuild. Didn't know dick when I started. Contacted most of the named vendors and frankly was ignored by most, or told to just order it off the net. Two people climbed in and helped a lot, Paul Zuniga and Matt at Colorado Norton Works. Its not that the other guys are bad or their products suck its that these two guys we willing to help. For that I am very grateful. Also at least as important for me is that they are prepared to stand up for their merchandise and if there is a problem fix it. My last box with the last parts leaves the USA next week. I've got a powdered coated frame and parts ready to go and I am twitchin in anticipation.

Thumbs up on Waldridge! They have always been able to get what I need and prices seem reasonable especially their end of year sale. I have also had good luck with Commando Specialties for some of the more unique stuff.
