Good day all,

I've done my research on our Forum for guidance with a repair on my 1973 Norton Veglia speedometer.

I've had the machine since 1974 and had an unfortunate accident in 2010 which launched my speedo & cup from the triple tree mount and into the woods....never to be found....very sad. I was lucky to find another used one and had it rebuilt by Scott Thomas of "Smith's Instrument Repair" here in US. He did a wonderful job with the restoration to match my original, like new, Veglia tachometer. Unfortunately, it reads 10 mph slow throughout the speed range and the odometer reset doesn't work.

(tried to load image here but I'm not having luck with the "insert image" icon.)

So, back 15 years ago I called Scott with the faults in his repair and he told me "It's fine and it works as it should." Now, 15 years later, I emailed him and called but the email was auto-returned and phone # is no longer valid. I'd love to take the speedo apart myself but realize the need to press fit things back together.

I do have Joel Levine Company and Lauderdale Speedometer in the US I found referenced here in the Forum. Just thought I'd check in to know if anyone has a like new speedo for sale or any other help with a repair suggestion.

Enjoy the ride....
Dave

10 MPH out sounds right for a Vaguelia, never accurate when new. Get a Smiths and have an accurate speedo, it will be tough to get someone to look at a Vaguelia let alone repair one. Ducati and Moto Guzzi used them so look out for Italian Classic Speedo repair people.

Agree, the Smiths gauges are better, but I'd need to change out both speedo& tach to match the Smiths gauges.

I am not in the states but in France so all the clocks available here are in KPH , plus shipping will be too expensive , and please edit your email adress too !!

Yup .

Mine was running 15 MPH faster than what my GPS was stating. The Odometer was fairly accurate to my GPS trip meter.
VAGUE is what they were. I replaced them with Smith Clocks which are much more accurate.

It's amazing that they get as close to accurate as they do across the range of speeds. A cable turns a magnet that magnetically induces rotation in an aluminum disc that is resisted by a music wire spring...

WTBS, I bought a book on magnetic instrument repair and made a test rig to spin the cable off the bike so I could "play" with the adjustments. I got my smiths speedometer within 5 miles per hour of accurate and gave up because a tiny turn of the adjuster screw and it was fast by 5mph. I just couldn't get it perfect so I did what Paul McCartney taught me....... I let it be... 😏

I love a challenge, but looked at a bunch of YouTubes on repairs yesterday and agree it's not something I could not fix. Both Veglia gauges are like new and read correctly when the machine is on the side stand or the center stand.....so let it be.....☮
