I have run into a little snag on the Combat build. I need new valves and guides. What vendors offer this service. I contacted Jim Comstock already, but he is extremely busy right now.
I was hoping to have the bike done for a show on the 4th of August, but quickly realizing this will not happen. so what are my options?

Looking for vendors and testimonials. Thanks.

Memphis Motor Werks, but I doubt if you'll get it in time, may be worth a call.

I am fairly certain I will not make it in time, Jim said 4 weeks minimum. When you are good at what you do there is a waiting list. I am looking at parts and tooling right now. RGM has the guides and valves, with the oversized inlet valve, for about $140. I need some other stuff from them and if I order today I would have it by tuesday or wednesday. I have done everything myself to this point, but part of me thinks I should send this out and the other part of me says not too. Decisions decisions....

As disappointing as it may be, I wouldn't rush the head work. Doing it twice would suck more than missing the show, or so my thinking goes.

I had thought about just putting it back together, but knowing what I have seen would haunt me. I don't want to have to take it back apart.

I found the tooling to do the job and the parts. I think I am going to just order it all and do the job myself on my time. I have to accept I will not make my target date and move on.

i might pull the Yamaha down and get it back on the road for the show, otherwise I'm down to using the Blast. I'm still mad at the Yamaha, so it might sit. (last 2 times out with it, speeding ticket, then front brake locked up and I dumped it) I'm unsure what the third incident will be, possible a nice fire

You can do it. I did my exhaust valves years ago. Had to borrow the wife's oven and refrigerator to give you a hint.

I ordered the tools and parts from RGM this morning. I already have an oven in the shop for powdercoating. I am bidding on a seat cutter set on eBay right now. So I should be all prepped to do it late next week. I might make the 4th, we'll see.

I was gonna suggest Phil Radford of Fair Spares in San Jose Cal.
His turn around time is usualy a week.
But it seems you'll have all the tools to do it yourself until you run into the problem of having to install oversized guides which you wont know until you mic the bores. You'll need reamers too for the guides.
Use the blue seals with the spring. My bike doesn't smoke one bit.
Phil does great work.

I had Leo Goff do my head and he was fast and did it right. Has oversized guides right there. Proper seat cutter machine etc. I disagree that any machinist can do it. A Norton specialist knows what is right because he has done hundreds of heads. Worth it to me.
