Most of the photos showing peoples builds always seem to show smooth/polished surfaced valve & points covers..
Mine on the other hand are finned.
I don't intend changing them...but I'd be interested to know
1. Are these correct for the Commando
2. If they are correct, When did they stop using the finned style
3. If they are correct why do I see so few on here

The originals were not finned. Smooth aluminum that can be highly polished if desired.

I believe Dunstall marketed them back in the day, and possibly others too. I have both valve and points covers, though my points cover is way less 'pedestrian friendly' than yours, Malcolm!

There not cheap....

Webco in the US also made them. For the Triumph they made a point cover and a rocker feed that were finned also ( I have on my '68 TR6R). I like the look but very expensive now - worth some good $$$$.

I have a set of the Sir Eddy’s Rocket tribute covers.

They are superb quality, lovely to look at, and they make me smile every time I go in the workshop because of the story behind them.

From a functional perspective, I've found they make loosening /tightening the rocker cover nuts a PITA.
Prefer the stock ones.

Is this to keep the trispark inition cool?

Maybe but it likely to be more use keeping the bike looking cool

It would keep the Trispark cool if there was a gap at the front to let air in and one at the rear to let it out.

Boyer did this with the MK1 that had the electronics in the timing cover

Before then giving up and putting the electronics in a box to be mounted remotely.
