Uses for pop rivet stems

The simple explanation is bike shed started as multi use , then as I added another bike, sm. tractor and bigger tiller ,not enough space , so added an 11’ x 11’ flat roof north wing , fast forward a couple years another bike more gear and the want/need to store firewood under a roof .... built a proper garden shed for my growing fleet of yard gear , wood storage and wife’s garden utensils etc. .... I ended up with a 12’x12 +11’x11’ shed for my bikes , insulated , heated etc. , so yup Commando lives in the north wing plugged in ready to go ,at all times ... still have to move one of the Italian bikes though .... space is very limited , and it not elaborate but it works for me .... it does have a couple of dead cats under it and newer shed has one fawn skeleton under it so some character as well .....

Look closely at Red Sox pennants , they from the 1946 World Series , my Father in-law and his buddy promised each other during WW2 , that it they made it home they would go to ballgame together with their combat pay .... it ended up being the World Series in Boston , they travelled by train and partied for the week .... too cool , eh .... banners hang in shed in honour of Wilfred J. Dale .....

Now that’s a great story.

It sure is ! there was no way those banners were ending up in a box and forgotten .....

My ultimate goal is to have a nice garage/shop with a detached house. A guy needs room you know, mostly to practice pop rivet dart shooting.

Well, eskasteve, you need to PM me your snail mail address, so I can send you two boxes of ammo.

Today a mid-size valuable package was delivered to my home in Gold Canyon, AZ. The sender somehow was able to hire an employee of the United States Government as his delivery accomplice. Let me tell you that tongues were a-waggin' as this federal official pulled his signature blue and red trimmed white Jeep into my driveway. Hot diggity dogs. My prize had arrived! After having my mini schnauzer give the box a thorough safety sniff I opened up the box. There, nestled among some very high grade biodegradable packing material, rested two individually wrapped smaller boxes. The first was green and adorned with gingerbread men and festive candy canes. The second was red featuring teepees, doves, and native American sun symbols. If the prize committee spent this much time just in the wrapping, then the actual award had to be mind numbing. Did texasSlick maybe gold plate these stellar examples of pop rivet stems. Maybe bedazzled with small gem stones. It had to be something extra special judging by the presentation. As the green package was the larger of the two, it was carefully opened first. Holy Crap! MISREPRESENTATION!. It was NOT a box full of pop rivet stems as promised, but a do it yourself stem kit. Complete pop rivets, not the finished stem only product. Surely box number two wouldn't be a royal screwing as the first was. Holy Crap Again! Another DIY stem kit! I showed my "prize" to my wife for her take on this apparent falsehood. Her caring and loving insight was, "Damn you're weird! Get a life". OK texasSlick, you got me good. I guess in the spirit of Christmas and the fact that it had such nifty gift wrapping, I need to say "Thank you very much". I now have a fine collection of pop rivets. BTW the Sears Craftsman box was pretty cool. Thanks
Steve

Steve,
i hereby award you the prize for post of the week. The prize is - there is no prize, but as you now have everything you could ever need from texasSlick i'm sure you won't be concerned.

Hold on folks, I just saw this and would like to add my submission. I bagged this beauty in Scotland during October using a single pop-rivet shaft.

Cheers,

cliffa.

@cliffa .... If I had another box of pop rivets, I would send it to you for the biggest lie of 2018!

It is funny, however, so you get a smiley :)

For the record the young buck photo I posted was frequenting our back yard last fall (17), we have a resident herd of deer in our small town which has become a hot button topic around the coffee shops ... I have a veg. garden , so you can guess where I stand ... Welcome all hunters !

Actual best use, for me, so far: our son has had allergy / breathing issues since he was a baby, so we have a nebulizer (fancy air pump) to administer liquid inhalant medicine. Well, just today, the pump vibrated off the bed and hit the floor just at the air hose nozzle location, breaking off the nozzle.

As it turns out, the I.D. of the nozzle is almost EXACTLY the same as a medium rivet stem. I had just used 2 rivets on a fry scoop, so knew exactly where to find a proper spent stem. The stem worked perfectly to hold the nozzle in place while the JB Weld set...

Do you need any back up stems? Once I remove the rivet heads from my DIY kit I will be stem fat or is that phat. Let me know and I'll get right on it.

The primary function of pop rivets is to connect together two separate pieces of material using the rivet heads. Since I could never master that function to my satisfaction, I sent all my rivet heads to you. You are supposed to put the stems to use after you fail the primary function.

Failure of primary function is accomplished by:
1) having a pop rivet tool that refuses to grab the stem.
2) having pop rivets that pop the stem before the separate pieces of material are clinched together.
3) having pop rivets that pop just plain ugly.

If any of the above occurs to you, send the pop rivets to GrandPaul, and use the stems as ammo in your blowgun.

PS ..... do not try to take down an elk with a pop rivet stem dart. Practice on wild boar hogs first.

We have a resident flock of javelins in the neighborhood. Would you recommend that I start on these then work my way up to the local bobcats, mountain lions or the recently spotted Mexican wolf? Wait a minute. Where in the hell did I move to? Was there a way-back machine involved? Hokey smokes. I just remembered that there was a bear spotted a mile or so away. No wonder that the vultures are so numerous.
I own a professional grade rivet tool and it's contributed to many rivet failures. The cost of that bad boy makes it even worse. I think that it laughs at me every time that I drag it out of the tool box.
