No, I am not "back" but I am still a Full Member in good standing, so I have an announcement.

When I build pre-MK3 Commandos with cush drives, I install a 520 chain. I was buying the rear hub/sprocket from RGM. Since RGM doesn't even answer emails, I can't get more.

I was recently approached by the company that made the pre-MK3 cush drive rear hubs in 530 and 520 for RGM and makes them today for Andover Norton. They also make MK3 rear sprockets but have never made them in 520. They have committed to make me a small batch for MK3 520 chains when they next make a batch for 530. They say "next year" but I'm pushing them for later this year. They are made in the UK.

I have one customer committed to a MK3 520 sprocket and I'm building a MK3 so I need one too. I've committed to buy four, but if others want them, I can commit to more.

I have eight pre-MK3 cush drive rear hub/sprockets on the way and they should be here late next week.

BTW, some think it is OK to simply turn 530 down to 520. Not true! After being cast, they are machined and then CASE hardened. Turning off the CASE hardening off the edges is not good. Since the bearing surfaces of the sprocket teeth are still CASE hardened, it is not catastrophic, but still not a good practice.

As always see my contact info at the bottom of every page at: https://www.gregmarsh.com and email or call me for more info or for free help with Commandos or Triumphs.

My brother turned down my MKIII rear sprocket so that I could fit a 520 chain years ago. Still looks great and works fine after roughly 30-40K miles. But thank you for taking the trouble to supply new ones. I might pick one up for my MKIIA.

Has anyone ever invented a better cush drive system for 70 commando. Just seems probably ineffective with those hard rubbers and only three drive points. The hub would need to be modified also with bigger drive recepticles and softer rubbers or more of them. but also keeping with the traditional wheel removal system with the drum staying on the bike. just a thought.

Don Pender makes this.

Wow is this AI. I just described just this to the tee. 25 years in the future ? And it will be 10,000 dollars in 2050 because the fiat currencies are all going to shit.

On my Mk3, I use a D.I.D. Pro Street 530VX3 chain. It runs perfectly on the original sprockets. Clearance to the gearbox is only a couple of millimetres, but it works fine and the chain has never contacted the gearbox.
