HI all,

I'm going through a Combat head - which seems to be in very good shape - and I was a bit surprised to find these lurking inside.
Whoever had it before clearly cared about these things, as it also has titanium collars and some natty Teflon-lined seals on the intakes.
Never seen anything like these before...

Any Ideas?

I'll bet they have something to do with the cam, and I'll bet it's not a stock piece...

I am guessing it's a Comnoz thing. He supplied me with those very nice teflon valve seals.

I am clueless as usual. But it looks like something one would want if they were concerned about the springs interfering with each other on compression. Or to help keep them in column.

Just curious, have you tested them with a scale?

Russ

The flat band between the coils is a friction damper. It makes contact with both springs to quell the surge that happens at certain "resonant" frequencies. Normally it is only used with racing type valve springs as it causes wear that shortens the valve spring life.
I have installed springs of that type before -but not for a long time. Jim
