With such abundance of mods and new age upgrades, just wondering how any one else finds living with only the 'good book' part numbers bike is working out. Exception to some degree on ignition system as very few good AAU remain on shelves and no more being made or recovered, yet. If weak parts replaced often enough I'm pretty happy as long as not pushing limits in any way, any more.

Sorry Bud, not exactly sure what you'r askin', but if it's a query about life with a pretty much stock Commando, as is mine, I'm cool with it. Only mod is an ancient Boyer and a K&N air filter. Even running the bronze clutch plates still. Cases split about 6yr ago to replace bad cam with new stock grind from NV and replaced the +.020 rings after a light hone. Reused the original super blends 'cause they were fine. About 47000mi. now. That the stuff you're wondering about?

Yes sir it is, for refreshment they can still serve well even w/o say an oil filter. Plus all the vendors to keep smiling and supplying.

I think he means as god made them .

( If people were supposed to be nudists , they would be born without clothes on :? )

Er ; Dead Stock , pretty much . O.E.M. from A to Z .

Yeah, same here. Re-laced an 18" on the rear back in '78, 12mm front master cylinder this year. 9,000+ miles on the original Amals are beginning to show signs of inconsistant idle (I carry a small screwdriver in my back pocket). Same bulbs, stock chains/points/clutch plates. Dunstall mutes. "Never looked back.
And, if God had intended us to use the Metric system, we would have been born with ten fingers!

Yep sir as God and Country issued them with nil desire to change, just replace and replace. I'm just being mean to me and myself and I and others as this issue has split my brain like an epileptic so only way to resolve is have one both ways or just quit. Projecting future which ones may out live the other or both about the same forever more. Whch logic to apply a long lasting component the produce may dissapear of more obsolete that continues in production? Ok mainly just my excuse not to be productive instead of day dreaming, chow.

I have a seventy-five-pound anvil that was bought new back in the '60s by my father. It works exactly the same from day one, just the same as anvils have since the Iron Age began. I fully expect my great-great-grandchildren to be able to use this same anvil. And yet, who buys an anvil nowdays? Could you get a startup company to fly by making anvils?
With today's fickle buying public, your marketing department better be pretty darned tight with what the world might want tomorrow, know where it's going next month, and probably even steer the market the way they want it to go.
The more I'm involved with the semiconductor market, the more I hate computers! I think I could safely suggest that anyone that gets involved with things like Nortons, wooden boats, and arrow heads, has a touch of the Luddite in him.

Do R-390A's fall in the Luddite catagory?

UnMolested testimony?

How do you keep the timing up to snuff on that thing? Id change it out for a Pazon.....

Anvils V Motorcycles?
An anvil is a solid block of iron/steel..a motorcyce is thousands of parts, dont see how you can compare the two? But to respond, the very early motorcyles lapped the TT at 30 mph...to day its 130 ...due to development. i would bet your choise of tyres is modern rubber, or are you still on Avon Speed masters :?:

DogT ! ya, I hadn't seen that receiver in 40 yrs either.......USS Hoel DDG-13, San Diego 1973 to 1975. Radioman. (Navcommsta Adak, AK 72-73). I'm not really new to the site; mostly reading posts. 1up3down lives by me and has helped get my 69 Fastback sorted out and on the road; he is a genius of sorts. Mine, it's s/n 20M3/ 130963 but is titled as a 1970. runs good, shifts great; a little valve-noisy and needs tires & drips way too much oil & 90wt, but a good looking and running old piece. my idle is @ 1100 but after riding for a while it jumps up to 1500? Switched from low pipes to peashooters; sounds perfect @ 4000 rpm. Im reading here on issues like my fiberglass tank being eaten; layshaft locking up; drum brakes not stopping etc haha; the blogs make me nervous of what I got; though I grew up on brit & Spanish bikes. have tried to post pics but apparently "photobucket" e-address isn't "properly established" on my computer....wtf that means. I'll get my kid over to figure it out though!
