Ulez London

And as I have said before
45 million spent on camera's plus the maintenance/running costs/staff
If it's a total success and everyone buys a ulez compliant vehicle then what happens to the cameras?
Or put another way if you just left as is in a few years time all vehicles would be compliant

No one ever seems to think of the law of unintended consequences

I saw some really interesting news in Japan recently, in some big cities they are prohibiting new residential buildings as there simply isn’t the infrastructure to support more people.
Infrastructure
To me thats a breath of fresh air.
Just recently we had a some bad flooding from a tropical weather front.
All the older areas of our largest city flooded because the under ground storm water pipes were only suitable 1950-1960's stormwater volume flow calculations
When there was a 1/4 of the amount of houses drive ways etc (water catchment) than there are today
Now due to re-subdividing the amount of permeable surfaces (grass etc) has diminished considerably and the ratio of permeable to non permeable surfaces is out of wack while the insufficient 1950's pipes remain...and the polllies media say its because of the so called changing climate....
I think anyone running for office should have available a full CV for the public to do their full due diligence on these idiots before we employ them.

I saw some really interesting news in Japan recently, in some big cities they are prohibiting new residential buildings as there simply isn’t the infrastructure to support more people, so they are forcing people to live outside and commute in. I found this very interesting as it flies in the face of the current ‘15 minute city’ fashion and shows that even if you try and achieve a 15 minute city, you’ll reach a breaking point which forces people outside of this, unless you’re prepared to spend massive sums, and suffer massive upheaval, on required infrastructure projects.

Isn't that already happening in the UK? I saw something recently-ish that suggested new housing couldn't be built in the Slough area as computer data centres were using all the available electrical power.

OTOH, Slough......

But hasnt it long been the case that to own a car in Tokyo, it is necessary to demonstrate that you have a parking space for it?

re. Khan and the ULEZ, the "consultation" was overwhelmingly anti ULEZ but he dismissed the result as 'not a referendum'. The bigger problem with this is that he is making it obvious that he, as a politician, isnt listening to what the electorate are saying or want. This is the attitude that brings about public contempt for politicians and the political system, and creates an opening for distasteful characters to push their agendas.

Flooding; we do (in the UK) seem to get periods of little rainfall then a deluge, which leads to the drainage being overwhelmed. People turning the front gardens of their houses into parking areas is often blamed for flooding. Local politicians dont have the wits to work out that if the introduce, and charge for, permits for on street parking, then concreting the front garden is the obvious thing for residential parking.

Yes that has long been the case in Tokyo and elsewhere in Japan I believe. But the recent news isn’t about cars, it’s about the people, they won’t allow residential developments in some big cities as the health, education, etc, facilities can’t cope.

One of the young blokes at my firm has relied heavily on food banks to feed his family since our overtime was stopped and prices have shot through the roof
He works full time his wife works part time
But his rent and childcare are so dear he cannot cope
He'd probably be better off on benefits
Luckily he lives just outside the ulez zone
It's people like him that I worry about

The closest I get to London is when I use the M25 orbital car park when on my way to Folkestone to catch a train through the Chunnel into France.
I have been into London recently once when taken in by ambulance for my operation. The traffic was horrendous and I’d hate to have to go there regularly.
If I never have to get within 25 miles of it ever again I certainly won’t miss it, I regard the place as a third world that doesn’t need me in it.

Totally agree
I aim to get as far away from it as I can
But I won't be heading to Oxford city centre 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Clearing up the "misinformation and conspiracy theories" about Oxford's planned 15-minute city:

1. You won't be restricted by crude physical barriers.
2. You'll be restricted by cool cameras.
3. If you're presence is unauthorized, you'll be fined.

Hope that's a load off.

🤡😂Oxford counsel has renamed climate lockdowns to *traffic filters*… You can’t go anywhere without permission from the government… and if you do they will send you the fine in the mail.

“Oxford traffic filters: what they really are and how they work.”

In this awful propaganda video The head of Oxfordshire County Council and Lead for Transport (Duncan Enright) seem rattled at the people opposing their tyrannical plans.

It’s called democracy
