re. weather; there have been some big hillfires around my part of the world, one of them (Llangynidr mountain) has been burning for days and the smoke covers a very wide area. For followers of Paul Henshaw, (on YouTube) one of the areas he rides - up to the Llyn Brianne dam also has a large wildfire burning.

Fires on the hills aren't _that_ unusual, but the current sizes of / number of fires is unprecedented.

Yes, or at least as subjective. I can say that I've had some beers that had to have tasted worse than cheap oil anyway.

Come to my neck of the woods, hot summers, bush fires, floods in our wet season, even now in our winter months our days are around 25c and nights down to 12c and we drink cold beers all year and we can ride all year round, except when its pissing down rain lol, but I have had my share of riding in heavy rain to get home or going somewhere.
But our state of Queensland we have burn offs during the winter months to stop the build up of under growth in summer and we have less survived bush fires than other states, but we still got to prepare if you live in the bush, be ready for anything.
In the suburbs more house fires caused by Liftium batteries going up in smoke people recharging their scooters.

Here in Devon we’ve had no rain for many weeks, days where it has been 30°+ and for us temperate climate people it has been rather too much. A few weeks ago we decided we needed to get away in the motorhome for a break, my wife has been extremely ill for the past 18 months and this was our first chance to get out of the house. We went to France and Belgium, with a quick look into the Netherlands before deciding to go down to the Ardennes forest region. Where we had experienced hot for the previous 10 days or so, we now encountered the mouth of hell! It was approaching 40° and no air con apart from when we were driving. So we turned around and motored off to Brittany, it was ‘only’ 28° there, but still uncomfortable. After a quick return to Belgium so I could get Molly the Labrador’s EU pet passport brought up to date we then made our way back home.
To heat, and dry, and more heat. We aren’t used to it, and don’t understand it.
Last Thursday I needed to get out on my Hayabusa, full leathers etc. to attend a bike meet 45 miles away, and it was 30° when I left home. By the time I finally returned it had dropped to 26° but inside my leathers I felt like a boil in the bag chicken. I was wringing wet and close to collapse. Dehydrated despite plenty of cold drinks.
As my wife, although still poorly as it’s life limiting and not curable, has said she is able to travel, thankfully. I have planned another getaway in 2 weeks time for a 2 month trip to Norway again. I know we will be guaranteed cooler temperatures, guaranteed wetness, and if what generally happens to us in our later holidays we will encounter snow, as it did in Sweden 2024

A couple of days and it's spring here, nights are already hitting above 15c and our days slowly getting over 25c just right great clear blue skies, got to take the donner off the bed as it's too warm for it now and put the summer sheets on the bed, we didn't get a real cold winter this year and only a few early mornings it got below 10c, but our southern friends have and still getting hit with cold weather, we were suppose to get rain all this week but so far nothing, as my weather rock is still dry and so far this winter I didn't even have to wear long pants, well only have one leg to keep warm anyway and my usual winter jackets are still hanging in the cabinet.
Our cold winters come in cycles a few winters when it very cold and a few winters when it's not so cold, nothing to do with climate change just a normal cycle for us living in the sub tropics and the Sunshine state of Queensland.
67 years old and I have never seen snow and don't even own a heater, house windows are always open 24/7 even in winter.

Never seen snow? You haven’t lived. We usually holiday around April to June ish, and September to October ish. Within those parameters I will be surprised if we don’t encounter snow sometimes. OK, we tend to want to explore areas that are known for snow in the winter, but we can get it anytime in some places - Covid, September in Switzerland while I was suffering with Shingles and had to dig out twice in different areas.

Btw, we set off on Wednesday next week towards Norway. Will we have snow?

I love to see snow once before I go but digging my car out of it, no thanks I like where I live, riding all year round is more fun than being laid up for winter, but then I been laid up for 8 months now, but to no fault of mine sadly.

On one hand I miss the snow on the other I do not. This hot summer in the UK mattered not to me because I am used to it and
also because it never really got that hot living by the sea. Heat only matters when you have to work for a living or when you are
out and about in a city. Otherwise just relax and enjoy it.

Yep it's just working in the heat I'm not fond of
I'm fine with it everywhere else
But working as a fabricator welder in a factory under a clear plastic roof has been sending me bonkers
By the time I have all my gear on and start welding I have the heat coming up and heat coming down through the roof
It's cooler outside in the sun

Hi baz, thats really a answer to the younger people. In most cases they've never had to do any real work
