TwinMax: what is it?

Hi
Looks interesting anyone tried one, save stuffing around with Mercury>

The Twin-Max is quite useful, dispute the fact that it uses a 9 volt battery (mine has lasted for over 2 years at this point) it allows you to sync your carbs without removing layers of air cleaning sheet metal.

However.

You can do as good or better of a sync mechanically, you just have to gain access to the slides; people with velocity stacks have an easy choice.

Make yourself a simple manometer out of clear plastic tube. Connect each end to one of the two balance tube spigots on the Commando manifolds.

I have an old mercury Carbtune, 35+years old? Incredibly quick and easy to use.
The device allows you to balance flow rather than the height of the slide which may not be quite the same. Carbs being less than perfect instruments - or is that just Dellorto's.
Once you have balanced tickover, you can set the cables too so each carb is passing the same air and therefore fuel.
Hopefully leading to better balanced combustion and a smoother engine.

Assuming Amal concentrics, I would think a manual set up is required before using the carb meter. How else to verify the slides stop at the same opening and the cable starts pulling both slides exactly at the same time. The rest is manual adjustment for idle speed and idle mixture. Off idle is automatic assuming jet needles and needle jets are not worn....same for the slides not being worn.

If the throttle stops are set so the slides rest at slightly different heights then the vacuum readings will be unequal. The same thing applies when the throttle is opened and the slides are lifted from the stops, if slides don't lift in unison then the vacuum readings will show this.

a pc of rubber tubing and a good ear is far cheaper.

What????
i have an old 4 tube sync stick, works well. Initially I place a cable tie just under the slide and adjust the cables so that they have an even lift, then the mercury levels at different rpm's
