"I'm going triple carbs. Any recommendations?"

Now you're talking...

Street Triple R is one of the best bikes I've ever ridden. I mean, no match for a twin-Amal Commando, mind, but decent for a new bike...

I rode a modern Triumph triple for the first time last week. This is an 05 Daytona 955i, with race can and mapping added dyno'd at 142 hp at rear wheel at 10,500 rpm. Sorry, no carbs on it, triple or otherwise.
What a sound!
As docile as the Commando below 4 k rpm. Above that, hang on.
Surprisingly comfortable bike.

Hi All,
Its a confusing choice which type of carb to go for.
I remember fitting my 36mm VM over 15 years ago & noticed the acceleration & top end were not as good as the twin 30 mm amals.
I am now thinking of buying new twin Wassell concentrics to get it going a bit quicker.
I have to say starting with the the VM is brilliant. Its just that i,m british & we're only poor, so £170 for carbs + new throttle cable, twin air filters, new petrol pipe set up, blimey its costing a fortune already. Sod it i'm sticking with the VM.
At least the forks will feel better once I get the sliders skimmed, lined with steel & a lower brass bush fitted. then they will move properly.
Then its new lansdowne dampers & no more topping out. It might even feel as nice as my Honda CBF1000. (sorry for saying Honda)
Unless anyone can pursuad me the twins concentrics will be a lot quicker !.
Cheers Don

Just my opinion, but unless you're racing and need all of that top end I would use the 34mm Mikuni. Take the time to dial it in and you'll be rewarded with ease of operation, great fuel mileage, tons of bottom end, little or no maintenance. I have been using single and dual Mikuni set ups on my Triumphs forever and I love them. I'm going to use a single Mikuni on my current Commando project......Skip

Right , We'll settle this for once & all . . . .

A ace race git fitted two tubes to a speedway sidecar T100 head , with a tube across ( lateral )
and a carb at each end / side . Said this worked well - tuned lengths / tourque etc . So , if WE
do this , AND have the straight tubes extended past the cross tube as well , ' WE ' can have another
two carbs parrallel as per std , aft of the cross tube . and arrange the throttles to open after the
smaller side carbs are opened . :D

 :? :P

I fitted my old Commado MK2 34mm amal to my honda PC 800, starts great, ticks over fantastic,,,BUT the suck holds the slide open  new bespoke spring 50% stronger is no better,
Is this issue normal, and how would it be addressed? By the way i have placed an order for a SU ,no slide!

A sticking throttle valve is a common issue on single carb units. To prevent sticking use a heavy brass valve and stronger spring. Please cancel your order for a SU:
hard to tune and ugly as sin
