Good call Bernhard, I watched the Tues episode about Norton and I can now appreciate how much work and effort has gone into producing the modern Norton. Stuart Garner deserves credit for what he has achieved in a few short years. I didn't realise the production line is just a couple of blokes assembling the bits (83% made in Britain :D ) and Garner admits to mistakes early on which explains the delays in getting one of the early bikes.
It showed that a lot of effort has gone into the TT, and the programme is bang up to date with coverage on practice day on Monday, good luck to team Norton.


A bit more info on the TV channel it is ITV4 on Virgin media number 118. How you get this outside the UK I haven't got a clue!!!!

I was impressed with the program too , but SG still comes across as a Barra Boy to me. All that rubbish about you have make the bike first before selling the T shirts made me want to vomit as I seem to remember some prams and a limited edition watch being sold first ;) Just met too many wide boys like him in my time to trust him.
 
I know just what you mean; he seemed to have opened up a factory, if you can call it that when it was completely underfunded. This is nothing personal, God loves someone who tries.
If he only has 2 men assembling complete bike he is hardly able to churn out bikes daily by the lorry load is he :?:
If you are waiting for delivery of a new 961 don’t expect it any time soon :(
 
Good episode last night, dedicating a whole programme to the newcomers to the TT, and the help they get these days is superb, with coaching given by 'Milky' Quayle to give the new lads a head start. I like the ITV4 coverage,mainly because it's the only place i'll see the TT this year :(

I may be wrong, but there seems to be a touch of Stuart Garner bashing on this site, I don't really understand why? the guy is doing his best and it is after all his company to with as he pleases surely?

Well said CB. As someone once said "...a journey of 1,000 miles starts with the first step". It seems that some people expect a fully formed factory capable of building a gazillion motorcycles per year to drop, fully formed out of the blue.

You clearly haven't been following the Norton saga, what with people having paid deposits and having long waits for a bike to be delivered-and when it appears it comes with a number faults that you can count with all your fingers & toes
The latest in the 961 saga is a dealer who has a batch of new Norton’s fitted with the wrong piston rings- but this is old news now.
 
I have followed the Norton saga with interest Bernhard, and it is all ......er....very interesting indeed........ I can sympathise with customers with their dissatisfaction.

Oh yeah ITV4 TT. The latest episode shows how the organisers are involving local schools to encourage engineering careers, showcasing the electric bikes with John McGuinness in the classroom (I didn't know that it has a 20% boost button for overtaking!) . Excellent stuff for the future engineers, electric bikes are definitely going to play a big part in vehicle design, they did mention electric trial bikes which seems a good application.

The racing starts soon, the ITV4 coverage is superb :D

Last year I started looking at connecting to a proxy server to get coverage of the IOM TT. I wasn't successful, however It will try again.
I hate the thought of an electric motorcycle, I think a video game would be a better way of getting a thrill. Even better would be to buy a bike with a very heavy flywheel which you can spin up with an electric motor connected to the mains, and then run on the stored energy for a few days using an automatic gearbox ?

If electric bikes can lap the IoM at +100 mph, then maybe you should stick to the video games....

Hopefully Ch 10 will show some highlights, like previous years.
But with budget cutbacks, who knows ?

Ditto. How can such an apparently mild mannered, affable, softly spoken person do so well in the cut and thrust of business and manage to fall out with so many people along the way? Cheshire Bloke wake-up and smell the coffee. The 83% made in Britain he quoted is by component i.e out of 100 parts 83 are British made so if all the nuts and bolts are made in Britain that's going to make up a large percentage component wise. The guy is not a million miles away from your typical slippery politician.

In motorcycling, nice guys come last. We have one effective private promoter of road race events in Australia. I sometimes get involved with him when our club runs events in conjunction. He is never 'affable', we simply have to tolerate his abruptness and ruthlessness towards making a dollar. Considering who his customers are and the way they behave, I completely understand why he is like that. Fortunately I only have to cooperate with him on occasion however the result is usually excellent. You really shouldn't try and justify some miserable bastards antics just because it's in the name of profit in any business.

There has been, loosely described here –it is not quite the same as an all-electric bike, fitted to Formula 1 car racing since 2009 a Kinetic Energy Recovery System (KERS) fitted for extra power in the F1 cars for about 30 seconds per lap.

The bikes go faster button only lasts about 15 seconds all told- as they only do one TT lap on one charge.

I don't get paranoid about people making a profit from a road race meeting, as long as the attempt to get a crowd is there.
Most of our Motorcycling Australia affiliated clubs do not run open road race meetings these days. If we race, because there is virtually no spectator following there is no gate money taken, so there is nothing to defray the circuit hire costs. It gets passed on to the competitors. The fella I mentioned actually runs a very good race meeting, however these days the classes are mixed at all events, so we never see really good racing. When I was racing regularly, I rarely rode a two stroke, however the good guys all had them and by default the grids all contained bikes of a certain similarity. The racing was always worth watching. I despair of ever seeing a good old-fashioned road race ever again. Standing by the side of any freeway, you can see better racing than what we have on circuits.
 
Good link Bernhard, getting up to an extra 160hp for 33 secs a lap is impressive engineering.

I know the electric bikes are doing minimal laps, but give it a few years and they'll be doing a three lap stand alone electric race. Michael Rutter achieved the 100mph lap I think last year which was a big boost (no pun intended!) to the manufacturers of these machines.

I'm still catching up with a couple of programmes of the TT, superbikes and sidecars to see yet :D
