Is he the no-nonsense, straight talking, strong leadership kinda guy that the US (and thus the rest of the world) need to see us all through the current global issues and make the world a better place?

Or is he a dangerous idiot that would create even greater frictions both within the US and between the US and the rest of the world?

Does anyone have a clue as to what he would actually do if elected? The Republican party itself is scared to death of him. He has a lot of angry, disenfranchised citizens stirred up. They feel as if they have been screwed by both parties and they want to elect someone who will screw someone else.

The night Trump played debate hooky, Colbert did a bit using clips of Trump making contradictory statements to set up a scenario where The Donald debated himself. He has called his opponents liars, chokers exalted himself as wonderful. He certainly hasn't broken the mold of politicians as bullshitters.

I hope your first premise is the correct one.

If your second premise is true, we all can take heart that he could not unintentionally fu@k things up any worse than the present occupant of the WH, who seems to be intentionally creating those frictions you allude to.

From the opposite side of the pond, Trump seems to change his mind a lot and is and will be about as diplomatic as a raging bull in a China shop if he gets into the White House but that’s just my opinion as I can’t vote in the USA, but god help you lot if he gets elected in November :!:

As an ex-pat Brit who has lived in the US since 1968, I'll seriously consider moving to Canada or back to the UK if that looney-tunes wins the Presidency. Since the UK has announced him "persona non-grata" and denied him entry in the future, I wonder if that will be rescinded if he becomes President. I sure hope he does something outrageous enough to shut himself out of the running. I don't think the other Republican candidates are much good either, since both 2nd & 3rd runners are both evangelical Christians. We don't need that BS in a multi-ethnic, predominantly agnostic nation.

I sure hope the majority of Americans are smart and will not elect this buffoon, he has the same rise in popularity a certain Adolph had last century and we all know how that turned out don't we :?: Channeling hate towards minorities, is NOT the way we as humans should base our collective decisions :!:

The US alone as a nation cannot prosper, just like Coca-Cola depends on billions of people drinking its cola each day for the company and its CEO to prosper. Closing the borders and building walls will bring cahos to millions of Americans and I can bet Trump will not be the one suffering from his bad decisions.

There's no premise in either statement. His own party is scrambling to cock-block him from getting their nomination despite their voters obvoiusly favoring him. They are even considering changing the rules of their party's convention in the hopes of nominating anyone else.

As to the causes of "frictions" as you characterize the current disgust and frustrations voters feel with both parties, neither Trump nor any other Republican candidate offer any solutions other than each claiming he is more "conservative" than the other. In general, the US is 1/3 Democrat, 1/3 Republican and 1/3 centrists who may vote either way. Those centrists usually decide the general elections, particularly when turnout is larger as opposed to smaller. All the rancor on the Republican side is pushing these centrists (many of whom claim to be Republicans) away from the any of the Republican candidates and the result will be predictable.

I decided to edit my reply concerning Obama as this thread is not about him.

Trump is rattling the establishment's cage. He is a threat to the status quo.

When Ghandi rattled the establishment cage, he (Ghandi) said "first they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you." Compare that sequence of events with the current one with Trump.

As for me, anyone or thing that is bad for the establishment, by default is good for the people, for it is damn sure the establishment is not for the people. That does not make me pro Trump, just anti-establishment.

In effect there is only ONE establishment, who pick THEIR two candidates and let us finalize the pick just so we the people have the illusion of participating in this "democracy". Then the establishment milks and bilks the economy and resources of America, as they have done for most of two hundred years. The people are just starting to see thru this game, and that is what is fueling the current backlash.

@frankdamp. Don't worry, you will not have to move to Canada. The establishment will see to it that Trump is removed with extreme prejudice and will blame it on some "disillusioned" or "radicalized" loner with three names.

@danno. You rail against the .001 %, are you planning on voting for one of their picks?

Something BIG is happening in America that we have not seen in our lifetimes. The establishment is running scared and is in outright PANIC mode because they have lost control of the American mindset, and the status quo is in jeopardy, and with it their easy pickings.

America is in jeopardy ... we are broke, the economy is in a shambles, we are one bank failure or black swan event from a financial calamity that will make the Great Depression feel like a minor recession. Trump will not save us from any of this, but the establishment worries he will not save them from it.

Comparing Trump to Ghandi and saying he's not "establishment" are the two most ridiculous statements I've ever heard. Trump is the very embodiment of the establishment, one of the .001% and the only people he's shaken up are the puppets of other oligarchs. The only difference is, instead of voting for Howdy Doody the pawn of the Koch Brothers, you can now vote for Howdy Doody Koch directly and eliminate the middle man.

There's only one anti-establishment candidate and he has a snowball's chance in hell of even being nominated, much less elected.

And oh, gloom and doom! We are on the edge of calamity! It's all just a matter of which calamity you want to choose to cower in fear of. Bank Failures! Global Warming! Whatever happened to Nuclear Holocaust? How about Zombie Apocalypse?

Danno, for the benefit of us simple English speakers... What does 'Howdy Doody Koch' mean ??

Howdy Doody was a marionette on a children's show many years ago. A clown and an entertainer.

The other candidates represent the interests of the .001% such as the Koch Brothers (and other billionaires). Trump combines the worst aspects of both; a clown with money. Eliminate the middle man, elect the billionaire directly. Hence, Howdy Doody Koch.

I really don't understand the Koch brothers, they pump millions uppon millions into super PACS, more than most and I would dare say 99.999% will ever earn in a lifetime each year to "better their own interests" With all that money, their ROI (return on investment) must be very low, wouldn't it be better to use a fraction of that money to increase their worker's salaries instead? How about funding hospitals?

Money really has corrupted those guys!

Money and profit has somehow become it's own end and cause. The Citizens United decision by the US Supreme Court, which allows billionaires to pour uncounted money into political campaigns is the worst thing that's happened here in a long time. The idea that democracy can be (and is being) bought like any other commodity is abhorrent to me and my only hope that their ROI is close to zero and the next President picks better Supreme Court Justices than would allow such a travesty.

Well said, and to top it all, these guys don't do any fun things with their money! IF I had endless money, I would be riding all the time, following the sun and warm weather, no need to pack a lot of things, just buy new stuff to replace the old 8)

many of us have not recovered from 2008... and we're pissed off.
I you want real change for all of us, vote Bernie.

If you want to see twice the trainwreck we have now, vote tRump and enjoy the ride. Btw, if Obama should show us his birth certificate, tRump should show us his little weenie, hehe!

A MESSAGE FROM THE QUEEN

To the citizens of the United States of America from Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

In light of your failure in recent years to nominate competent candidates for President of the USA and thus to govern yourselves, we hereby give notice of the revocation of your independence, effective immediately. (You should look up 'revocation' in the Oxford English Dictionary.)

Her Sovereign Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will resume monarchical duties over all states, commonwealths, and territories (except North Dakota, which she does not fancy).

Your new Prime Minister, David Cameron, will appoint a Governor for America without the need for further elections.

Congress and the Senate will be disbanded. A questionnaire may be circulated next year to determine whether any of you noticed.

To aid in the transition to a British Crown dependency, the following rules are introduced with immediate effect:

-----------------------

1. The letter 'U' will be reinstated in words such as 'colour,' 'favour,' 'labour' and 'neighbour.' Likewise, you will learn to spell 'doughnut' without skipping half the letters, and the suffix '-ize' will be replaced by the suffix '-ise.' Generally, you will be expected to raise your vocabulary to acceptable levels. (look up 'vocabulary').

------------------------

2. Using the same twenty-seven words interspersed with filler noises such as ''like' and 'you know' is an unacceptable and inefficient form of communication. There is no such thing as U.S. English. We will let Microsoft know on your behalf. The Microsoft spell-checker will be adjusted to take into account the reinstated letter 'u'' and the elimination of '-ize.'

-------------------

3. July 4th will no longer be celebrated as a holiday.

-----------------

4. You will learn to resolve personal issues without using guns, lawyers, or therapists. The fact that you need so many lawyers and therapists shows that you're not quite ready to be independent. Guns should only be used for shooting grouse. If you can't sort things out without suing someone or speaking to a therapist, then you're not ready to shoot grouse.

----------------------

5. Therefore, you will no longer be allowed to own or carry anything more dangerous than a vegetable peeler. Although a permit will be required if you wish to carry a vegetable peeler in public.

----------------------

6. All intersections will be replaced with roundabouts, and you will start driving on the left side with immediate effect. At the same time, you will go metric with immediate effect and without the benefit of conversion tables. Both roundabouts and metrication will help you understand the British sense of humour.

--------------------

7. The former USA will adopt UK prices on petrol (which you have been calling gasoline) of roughly $10/US gallon. Get used to it.

-------------------

8. You will learn to make real chips. Those things you call French fries are not real chips, and those things you insist on calling potato chips are properly called crisps. Real chips are thick cut, fried in animal fat, and dressed not with catsup but with vinegar.

-------------------

9. The cold, tasteless stuff you insist on calling beer is not actually beer at all. Henceforth, only proper British Bitter will be referred to as beer, and European brews of known and accepted provenance will be referred to as Lager. South African beer is also acceptable, as they are pound for pound the greatest sporting nation on earth and it can only be due to the beer. They are also part of the British Commonwealth - see what it did for them. American brands will be referred to as Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine, so that all can be sold without risk of further confusion.

---------------------

10. Hollywood will be required occasionally to cast English actors as good guys. Hollywood will also be required to cast English actors to play English characters. Watching Andie Macdowell attempt English dialect in Four Weddings and a Funeral was an experience akin to having one's ears removed with a cheese grater.

---------------------

11. You will cease playing American football. There is only one kind of proper football; you call it soccer. Those of you brave enough will, in time, be allowed to play rugby (which has some similarities to American football, but does not involve stopping for a rest every twenty seconds or wearing full kevlar body armour like a bunch of nancies).

---------------------

12. Further, you will stop playing baseball. It is not reasonable to host an event called the World Series for a game which is not played outside of America. Since only 2.1% of you are aware there is a world beyond your borders, your error is understandable. You will learn cricket, and we will let you face the South Africans first to take the sting out of their deliveries.

--------------------

13.. You must tell us who killed JFK. It's been driving us mad.

-----------------

14. An internal revenue agent (i.e. tax collector) from Her Majesty's Government will be with you shortly to ensure the acquisition of all monies due (backdated to 1776).

---------------

15. Daily Tea Time begins promptly at 4 p.m. with proper cups, with saucers, and never mugs, with high quality biscuits (cookies) and cakes; plus strawberries (with cream) when in season.

God Save the Queen!

PS: Only share this with friends who have a good sense of humour (NOT humor)!

I think you must warn them about the next in line
Imagine it, Chuck and Trump together
Prince Phillip might be ok , he says what he wants

I can't imagine Trump and anyone together.

He'd be at war with the tea lady before the 1st day is over....

I happened to see a whole hour of Trump talking on TV in my hotel room the other night after he won the Michigan polls.

As a Brit who only ever sees his headline grabbing soundbites, it was interesting. He was not as 'firebrand' as I had expected from the headlines. He is an interesting character though. I can see how he taps into the public psyche. I also think that, just like in Europe, his popularity is a measure of the dullness / blandness / lack of standing that the rest have. That's why Cameron has had two innings in the UK, I have nothing against him per say, but he is largely successful due to the lack do meaningful competition I feel.

However, I think it is fair to say that Trump did not come across as the most intellectual orator or debater.

My overriding feeling having watched him for an hour is that the is NOT the crazy, idiotic wild card that the media is desperately trying to portray, he is serious about this... and he is doing well.

If you guys do not want him in the Whitehouse... You had better make sure you use your votes !!
