Triton Battery

Hello everybody,
Apologies if this is an old issue but it's new for me. I'm building a Triton using a slimline feather bed frame and Triump pre unit 650 motor. The project is about 70% complete but have become stumped over where and his to site the battery. :?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm currently thinking of behind the gearbox, below the remote oil tank but it's a bit of a squeeze .

Thats where mine is

in seat hump , in tray in front of F'Glass oil tank , & ditto under front of swing arm were all standard issue back then .

These modern fancy pants sealed dry cell things nowadays , if not for everynight use , you could probably sling one IN the headlamp .
Four D cell evereadys lasted at least two minutes on the 6 V BSA A10 head lamp . :lol:
These modern Ni Cad things might do it , but the Li Pos can blow up and are inflamatry , or is that incednery . So DONT use Li Po's .

Thanks for the feedback. You've convinced me to somehow fit it behind the gearbox, have started by making a dummy battery. The problem is see is that once I've fitted the primary chain casings I won't be able to remove the battery if ever faulty. The only way I see is by designing some kind of bomb door access underneath. Work in progress I think. Cheers. :?

yea , a sort of slide thing ( frame ) with a dzus pin to fall out , so it falls off , so its lighter . :? Maybe TWO Dzus Pins ! .

wires about 6 in longer , so theres acces or they don't strain with it dropped .

About 3/4 x 3/4 2 mm steel ( stainless ? ) verticals , with a doubled or 1/8 ' catch ' area . or washer sweated on to reinforce .
back edge'd likely be a stone guard , unless theres a big heavy mudguard running thru down there .
TOP can obviously be closed / sheet .

DRESDA Original actually had TWO 6 V batteries stuffed in the rear subframe triangles , Ea side of the tyre @ about 45 deg. up
from rear axle. Hiding behind the side number ( racing ) plates . maybe the easiest / pukka perod thing .

all this laser cut cnc 2001 Honda type tripe don't really cut the cake , if youre going 50 years into the past .

when central oil tanks where all the rage way back when there used to be a central oil tank with a battery mounting in front of the central oil tank, but I haven’t seen one for a long while.
If you are in the UK you could try Dave Degens at Dresda -he might have a second –hand one in stock.

He'll still make you a new one if you want. Not cheap but good quality. You could also try Unity Equipe in the UK, they also sell them.

The -serious- problem with that arrangment is that the battery then sits directly under the carbs and the petrol dripping from them everytime you flood them to start your engine. :roll:

My carburettors are further forward than the battery in the front pocket of the Unity central oil tank.

If you run a maggie who needs a battery.
