Anyone buying Tri- Spark electronic ignition for their Norton through Charlie Barnes at Power Three Racing? FAZ

Tri spark

Hi all
The only person I know running a Tri spark on his Norton is mwoo. I know this as I brought his Boyer off him. He says its all good.
On Triples its the only way to go.
all the best Chris

FAZ,

Could you give us a bit more information please?

Is this a general enquiry about Tri-Spark ignitions? Or does it specifically relate to Tri-Spark ignitions purchased from Charlie Barnes?

I also have a Tri-Spark system fitted on my 850 Mk3 Commando (as well as my Triumph T160 Trident).

Bikes

Hi LAB

isnt it strange that a lot of people seem to have a Commando along with a triple. Given enough money a museum would seem in order!
looking forward to the new season.
all the best Chris

And maybe there's the odd Triumph or BSA twin in the 'museum' as well?

L.A.B. as you will know, Triple owners are reporting much improved running and especially tickover with the Tri-Spark system when compared to a Boyer fitted on a Triple.

I was just wondering, have you (or mwoo or anybody else with a Tri-Spark fitted to a Commando) noticed any differences / improvements when compared to a Boyer? To be more specific, when compared to a Boyer MK3?

I would love to report that the Tri-Spark was a substantial improvement over the BB Mk3 unit I replaced, as it was on my Trident (Rita with 3 x 4V coils replaced) unfortunately I can't do that, as there didn't seem to be any noticeable difference in the ignition performance-wise that I could detect with my Commando!

The Tri-Spark may have allowed even easier starting on the electric starter, my Mk3 normally started easily enough with the BB unit on the starter, but the Tri-Spark left me with a problem that it suddenly became difficult to start using the kickstarter with a cold engine, and I've not been able to work out why, so far?
Constant kicking only rewards me with backfiring through the carbs, until I give up and press the button when it usually starts as soon as the first piston goes over compression.

I spoke with Steve Kelly at the TDU in Oct 07 and the twin Tri - Sparks were only really hitting the streets then ~

SO I would assume that there is not a lot of them around as yet !

( I was not going to fit ellectronic ignition to the T150V project untill Steve offered a Special deal for the rally .. "sold me !!! ")

( I f you don't know the relevance of Steve Kelly.. he owns the company!!)

Another one here too ~ Commando and Trident owner !! 8)

No Bsa's

Too many bikes not enough time!
Plenty of other projects, although unfair to call collections of parts,'bikes' But!
Last BSA I owned was a Goldie 30 years ago. Like them just dont need more parts of a different type.
I was trying to standardise a bit so have not brought a Tri spark for the triple. However my standardization now leaves me with all versions of the boyer a good smattering of Ritas & on the race bike a Interspan.
Not much cop at making my life easier.
all the best Chris
