My rear rim has some rust inside. Chrome Dunlop WM2 with new stainless spokes. What's a proper treatment to keep it from getting worse before I have a new tyre mounted?

I like the rust converter options. There's phosphoric acid types and chelation type (liek Metal Rescue). Both will convert rust back into original metal by the opposite chemical reaction to oxidation, known as a reduction reaction. The acid types are generally faster and usually cheaper. Chelation solutions usually require an overnight soak at or above room temp for best results, so you need larger volumes...but can be re-used on many other parts for many months.

EDIT: The chelators are usually non-toxic to work with an will not harm paint or palstic....so excellent choice for a gas tank etc. The acids I've used are usually a gel-type ("Naval Jelly" was a brand back some years ago, but many others around these days). Gel helps keep the acid where you want it on all the peaks.valleys of the pitted surfaces. Once complete, the rust turns dark grey/black. Can be cleaned up a coated/painted like bare metal.

Personally I Just scrape away and wire brush rim interior then apply 2 coats of Weather shield Rust Coat Paint. Then new rim band. Then new tube, Then new tire.

I used Permatex "rust treatment" (after wire brushing the affected areas). It's a brush on liquid, reacts to the rusty spots, and turns into a blackened seal. Worked great for me. Don't know the specific chemistry.

I went to SS rims. Problem was and is that the rear rim on offer is not punched correctly or at least not five or so years ago when I did mine. Front one was fine. SS rims are great in that scratches and rust are no longer a problem.
And one other thing: rust forms inside the bead so if you are treating it a longish soak in rust converted may help.

I have an assortment of rust converters that I use for de-rusting tools and such. I think I'll do the wire wheel first, then the converter, and maybe some POR-15 or Zero Rust paint. Thanks for the ideas.

BTW, where is the rubber rim band listed in the parts lists? The rear wheel group doesn't show it.

I friend recently gave me a couple of Norton rims. The chrome looks great, but on in the inside of the rim there is some rusting. He gave me the rims because previously he had a bad experience (with another set of rims) where flaking chrome sliced the inner tube, the tire deflated, and he crashed the bike. He now only runs alloy rims.
Has anybody else had a similar experience where rusting chrome rims have caused a flat?
