I opened up the transmission on my 1970 Commando "S" to replace the kickstart pawl this weekend. When removing the 7 nuts holding the inner cover on one came out with the stud. The threads are all ok and I am planning to clean the threads in the case and on the stud and screwing in with some red loctight unless somebody has a better idea.

If you clean it use some acetone based cleaner (degreaser) or an oil-tolerant Loctite like 603. Std brake cleaner etc. often leave a residue which significantly reduces the adhesion of the Loctite formulae which start with a 2 like 27x, 26x etc. ... and maybe it's worth doing the other studs as well while you're at it.

Are you sure you want to use RED Loctite? I think blue will hold it as tight as you ever will need, but will allow extracting the stud should it ever come to getting it out at some future time.

If you do opt to use red, and want to extract the stud, you will have to heat the stud/case to 500 F to break the bond.

Does it matter if the stud comes out with the nut, just put the stud in a vice with soft jaws, unscrew the nut and screw the stud back in the case with a bit of lock tight, once the nut is put back on and tighten up it won't come loose or it shouldn't come loose.
It happens a lot when undoing nuts on studs no big deal at all and once back in they stay tight.
