Got to take the S for it's first real ride today after resolving the clutch issue. Shifts fine, especially now that I can remember the pattern, but there is a noise in second only. It is making a click, click, click sound. I don't think it is missing a tooth as it isn't jerky under load.
The noise is present with no power. I coasted it down the drive engine off in second, clutch in,with the same result. Any thoughts? At least the engine runs fine.

Thanks in advance,

Tom

I would certainly take it apart for a look. It could be missing a tooth and it wouldn't be jerky- just noisy. But if it breaks more teeth it will do more damage. Jim

Too rainy to go out to shed so posting on this. For one thing a broke tooth can't really be felt and a single tooth will not be heard or felt but maybe a fleeting tickle then drops to bottom, it takes over 3 teeth to be noticed in shifts but not necessarily once in gear. For sure busted teeth do not make regular rhythmic noises, more like dramatic metal bits gnashing and fracturing once enough of em pile up to foul, if it still shifts and drives forward. More likely bearing coming apart or a bush busted pieces off or dog wear smearing against cog notches. Might not be in gear box so check around but I'd be real pensive till solved. Danger is lock up or let go just when you least can handle it. Going slow more risk than fast as no time to recover while at speed ballistics give a grace period. Can't say which is worst, so just let it surprise ya eh.
