I am restoring/modifying a 1975 Mk III Roadster, it is almost time to mount the horn, a job I hope to do only once, given the location. I have the stock horn, but it is 34 years old, probably wasn't used much, does work and is loud enough.

I fitted a Nautilus to an R1200GS I had a few years ago and it was almost as loud as a chain saw...doesn't look like there is enough room for that baby.

It looks like there is a lot of room...but the oil filter lives in there too.

Anybody gotten creative with warning device(s)? what have you fitted for a horn?

I mounted a nautilus on mine in the stock location. But if I had to do it over I would separate the pump from the horn. I have my compressor horizontal which is supposed to be a no-no but it has been fine for 2 yesrs. Really makes the high school girls jump! Then wave!

This is where I fitted mine, From a CBR 1000.

Much more sensible location. When I rewired my Commando, getting new wires to the horn was by far the hardest part of the job.

Something Old...

I have decided to clean up and reuse the original horn. I adjusted it yesterday and it is plenty loud enough, if it fails it will become a perpetual passenger.

I very much like Hortons Norton location (very "clean" installation---good job), but it is not an option for me as I am using a Cranes Cam mono-coil, and it mounts right where he has his horn.

Every timeI think of the standard Norton location I can't help but think of Edgar Allen Poe's, "A Cask of Amontillado" :D

RS--I think I'll stick with Martinis...

An apt description! :D My original horn also resides in its original place, dead and unmoving. In pace requiescat. No way I was going to contort myself to replace it. The new horn is in a much handier location.......

It isn't that bad if you remove the rear wheel and fender which really doesn't take long. Get out the Gojo hand cleaner too. It's black and goooooey under there!

At the time the Commando was launched, one of the UK motorcyle magazines characterized the horn as "sounding like a bee under a bucket".

A friend in England mounted two Fiamm air horns, one each side of the headlight and put the air pump somewhere on the front down-tubes. You could sure hear that one.

My horn was well preserved under all that black goo. I cleaned the old boat anchor up and sold it. I just use some $15 Harley horn under there but now that the rebuild is underway I may stick it in a different location.
