To R&R the kickstart spring I use a piece of thin nylon string ( I call it surveyor's string, available everywhere ) , make a loop, slip it over the main hook and it's off in a second or two. Same with installation.

Quick and dirty extractor for the mag sprocket on ES2 . This sprocket is on a tapered shaft with no key - when setting the timing the piston is brought into the correct position on the compression stroke. The magneto is turned over until the points just start to open and then the sprocket is set on the shaft with a sharp rap . Getting it off is another matter as there is little room between the chain and its surrounding case and you cannot pry against anything. The extractor allows you to pry against the shaft itself. Some years ago I tried to drill and tap the sprocket for two holes and use a regular style bar puller but the sprocket is hardened and no bit will touch it. When trying to remove the sprocket it is important to back off the nut but leave it on the shaft because when the sprocket suddenly comes free it does so with a bang !
